Its abit hard to explain but here are my symptoms:

- I hear a whistling noise when the turbos kick in. Normally I would here a spooling noise.

- Loss of power; not much immediate power when turbos kick in. Normally I would have explosive power in the mid rev-range.

- Not as much power as normal; power starts to arrive higher in the rev range

- Boost gauge shows turbos working correctly (14psi)

- Fine blackish mist comes out of exhaust sometimes when car is warming up.(Car is running rich)

From what I've researched I think I have a boost leak.

What do you guys think?

Do you know a mechanic around Sydney preferably around the Northern Beaches when knows Soarers or has experience with turbocharged cars. My normal mechanic is a family friend and isn't too familiar with this stuff

Cheers,
George

Same loud whistling noise can come from a boostleak

Its pretty loud, I can hear it clearly while driving.
I don't think my turbos have gone because my boost gauge shows them working fine and there is still a lot of power. Just not as much as before. It feels a bit like turbo lag.

same symptoms happened to my TT,sounds like your turbo may have shate its self.

- Fine blackish mist ,oil seals in turbo maybe?

I would have it looked at by a mechanic and get good idea of what might be wrong.

my bloody head gasket went at the same time aswell!

you maybe still be making 14psi but with the flow rate of a turbo^^,
when you have a boost leak your car will smell very rich like my right now=.= but if is a blown turbo the smoke comming out is the engine oil leaked out of the turbo and got burned. so would smell very different to what ever petrol smell like.
go start you car and have a snife and tell us what it smells like.

blown turbo will create white smoke as its burning the oil in the exhaust (go drop oil on your hot exhaust manifold and tell me what colour it is :-) )

If its black smoke, thats unburnt fuel, aka rich fuel mixtures.

If its blue you are burning oil internally, be it leaking valve stem seals or worn rings.

also white smoke can be attributed to burning coolant internally, through a blown coolant gallery to a cylinder etc
