hey everyone. Im a brand new member having just bought a 92 Soarer TT 2 days ago :-) i love it so far, Turbo's were recently done and just the amount of torque and power the engine producers is great.

Anyway i had a quick search for power steering issues but couldnt exactly find what i was looking for.

Basically my problem is the pump seems to be a bit loud, like its under extra strain or something, ive checked the level and its fine, and i cant seem to find a leak. So my question is this normal for the pumps on soarer to be a tad louder? or is the pump on its way out?

Also ive gotten different advice on what engine oil i should use. Mines done 140,000kms so just curious what brand and weight would be the best protection.

Thanks, any help would be great :-)

For the power steering I just did a flush with Castrol Dex3, used 4 liters just to be sure. About 30 bucks and my power steering is inaudible now.

For engine oil I run Penrite HPR5. It is semi synthetic and doesn't cost a limb.

It's best to stick with the manufacturers oil recommendation, or within the window of it.

10W30 looks to be the spec from factory. I know many people who run 10-40 and 15-40 in the 1jz-gte without problems, Penrite HPR15 is a good choice and many people use it on 1jz's.

hey guys, thanks for the help

i ended up buying fully synthetic 10w 40 by penrite so hopefully it does its work :-)

And i found a small leak coming from the power stearing pump today. so thats a bummer. hence why it was making the noise.

Thanks again

10-40 will be fine.
Where abouts on the power steering pump is the leak coming from? I just had a leaky o-ring on the suction hose. Seen it on a few Soarers so it looks to be a common problem.

The o-ring is only 20cents and takes 5 minutes to change over.

Hey Austin. Umm it seems to be coming from the biggest hose from the pump, its not a major leak, more like its weeping a bit.

Is that the suction hose?

Bjorn check the underside of the large hose where the bend is, you might find the hose has fine cracks in it, causing it to weep.
