I'm upto replacing the thermostat. Upon unbolting the housing the old thermostat and gasket just fell out onto the floor so now I don't know how to put it back together, nice!

There is a groove on the inside of the gasket which leads me to think it is placed around the edge of the thermostat, and not over or under it.

Can somebody clear this up?

Cheers!

Man it was a mission getting in there with the oil drain/feed lines in the way haha, but it's done now :-)

Is there any way of changing the rear water pump housing without removing the front turbo? (again)

I noticed this when working on a 1JZ yesterday. Not the easiest thing to get at is it. Haha

That said, the engine itself is rather straight forward to work on. Woundln't mind getting my hands on one to have a play around with on a more regular basis.

The thermostat housing wasn't too bad to get off, just a couple 1/4" extensions did the trick. However, the two nuts on the back housing on the water pump is a major bitch and I needed to put a bend in a 12mm spanner to reach around the oil drain hardline. BAH!
