Hi guys,
With my 1JZ motor going bang out of nowhere a few months ago on the way home from work, I have decided to bite the bullet pay the extra money and get a 2JZ TT Motor.
I sourced a 2JZ TT Aristo Engine/Gearbox/ECU out of a 1996 Auto Aristo with 100,000km on the clock and bought all the necessary parts to give the motor a freshen up and all the little things I need.
Most people who do this 2JZ Conversion into a Soarer for what I have seen, they still run the same 1JZ Gearbox/ECU but transplant the 2JZ Motor.
I want to do a full swap where I transplant the 2JZ Aristo Gearbox (Auto) the 2JZ Aristo Engine and the 2JZ ECU.
Now the problem that I am going to run into is that the 2JZ Aristo Auto gearbox has a flange coming out the back, where the 1JZ Soarer tailshaft is a spline/yoke design.
Just writing this thread to ask the experts on here on Soarer Central and to all the people who have already completed a conversion just like this.
I am not sure what is the best and easiest option to fix this.
Do I need to just do a custom tailshaft. Or can I buy a 2nd hand tailshaft from another Toyota model and fit that into my car to work.
Any help will be greatly appreciated. Once I have found a solution for this I can start the conversion and finally get my beast back on the road.

personally i think would be so much easier running the 1jz box with a shift kit and maybe a freshen up they can handle some good power with some new internals. also running the 1j engine harness adapted over to the 2j. also the aristo box would handle basically the same power anyway so would need to do that up at a later date aswell. for tailshaft wise may need to get you 1j rear shaft and have the 2jz flange adaptor welded onto the front section of the 1j tailshaft after you have it measured up

You need to find a DS that has that same large 3 bolt pattern and the large size donut too. In the US you can use a GS400 VVT-i, LS400 VVT-i, SC400 VVT-i (pretty sure this DS would be a direct swap) or Supra TT DS among others. Then you can get a DS shop to cut off your spline/yoke and put the flange on.
Is the Aristo flange the same size as your differential or larger?

Guys thanks for all the responses. I decided to bite the bullet and get a custom tailshaft made up. Hopefully it holds up well with the abuse that will be coming it's way. Lol waiting for engineering now and then tuning and it should be ready very soon. It's been way too long getting this car ready. Next up is full respray new rims black interior.

Thats great to hear Manual, sorry i didn't see this thread earlier. A modified tailshaft + balancing is how i've done it in the past. Quick and not very expensive.

No probs Cihan. I am using the same piggyback computer I had controlling my 1jz the tsi/powermod. I am initially going to tune the car on 16psi. I still have no idea why my 1jz grenaded but something very interesting I found out yesterday. I had a look at the ct12a turbos closely. One turbo had very damaged blades with small pieces lying around everywhere in there. The 2nd turbo bearing was completely snapped off inside the turbo. Could this be the cause of the engine failure?? I always thought when the turbos explode they get sucked through the exhaust and front mount. Very weird!!

Manual, you might find something went through the engine and caused the turbine failure. If you pull the head off, take a close look into the combustion chambers for markings. I've seen the aftermath of a forged engine suck in something, mulch it into little pieces at high revs, snap the piston ring landings, dump it all out the exhaust ports and damage an iconel turbine wheel. The engine still ran OK, not how it should but still OK.
Being a ceramic bonded wheel, i wouldn't be surprised if it came off the shaft on contact.

The tailshaft guy came in and did the measurements himself... on my conversion.
Engine in, Gearbox in with custom mounts(if using A341), and the guy just measures and does his THANG with the 2 tailshafts (one Aristo and one Soarer)
