For the past 2 months, I've had white smoke blowing out the exhaust very noticeable. Was defected yesterday for this.
I've spoke to several people and they have suggested that it is the turbo seals that need replacing. I'm wondering whether its possible to put a second hand single turbo to combat this, or a pair of bigger turbos?
And if so what prices I'd be looking at? I'm not too knowledgeable of cars, but I'm ideally looking for a quick and effective solution.
Any help regarding parts, or recommended affordable adelaide specialists would be much appreciated.

Not sure about SA requirements, but in QLD, changing from TT to single requires engineering certification.
So, factor in costs of - manfold, turbo, lines, exhaust mods to match, engineering (if applicable)... it will add up.
If all you are doing is looking for a cost effective way to clear the defect and get back on the road as quickly and cheaply as possible, I'd suggest sourcing a replacement stock item :-)

Whats the code for a 'single turbo installation'? Their is none. The only thing in the QLD COP about it is 'LA3' which is 'Turbocharger and supercharger installation' which is only if your car was originally NA.

Mark you are right about the codes. When my single turbo got defected I ended up having many discussions with engineers and the police traffic branch as to what I actually had to do to get the single turbo approved. The traffic branch had no clue what code was required even though they defected me for not having a mod plate in the first place.
I ended up with an LA3 code mod plate as it was the closest one to suit a TT to single conversion. I haven't had any problems since.

Perhaps I didnt word myself the best and I should have added to the end of that sentence something to the effect of - ...to save you a lot of potential grief.
Anyways, thats what I went for as well - LA3.
Basically the way traffic coppers think is "we know its different, we think it should be mod-plated, here's a ticket because its not"
The ticket doesnt prove you're guilty of anything... its just an allegation... in order for you to clear yourself of that allegation, you then have to defend it in court or take it on the chin.
But given the time and cost involved in doing that, its cheaper to just get it plated and save yourself the hassle.
Call it a bit of 'insurance' against some of the boys in blue who wouldnt know their arse from their elbow and write tickets simply to make up quotas

Hey, I have the same problem, just come from the mechanic and he is quoting me $$$'s for the repair/rebuild, saying it would be cheaper to put a single on. Not great with the terminology, but I had my ceramics replaced with steel wheels a while a go, and I've got a mate who's prepared to remove and possibly rebuild depending on whats involved. Just wondering if anyone has any ideas where I could get a rebuild kit from and if I'd need to do anything else. I read a post elsewhere saying I needed to have them balanced once they were rebuilt...and does anyone have any experience with this.... http://cgi.ebay.com.au/CT12-TURBO-REBUILD-KIT-SUPRA-SOARER-CHASER-1GGTE-HILUX-/170593852768?pt=AU_Ca r_Parts_Accessories&hash=item27b82f9d60 Any help much appreciated!!!

Mate a fair bit is involved. It's serious work to balance them. Not 1 for rookie's. Proper workshop for rebuilding turbo's is required. Try CGC or ATS in Adelaide.

I'm in Melbourne, had them rebuilt by ATS in Tullamarine when they were open, but they've closed down since so I cant get in touch... know anyone else then? or at least where I can get the rebuild kit from? I thought these ones might last longer given I dont thrash the car ever and have regular oil changes...
