hi as some might know ive done a 2jzgte conversion.
found yesterday after about 10 mins of letting it idle to charge battery has a knocking noise in top end. has fresh motul turbolite oil 15-40 and with screwdriver sounds like top end best heard on head right under cam cover on drivers side about 3 inches behind the water outlet. which has me thinking maybe either cam bearing or possible needs to have valve reshimmed (hopefully)
so basically im wondering if the 1/2j's if the valve shims need doing are they a high pitch tap or a slightly lower thuddier noise... either way i have the and contemplating destroying the car at the moment its a god dam lemon lol

the cam bearing makes a noise like dice in a small tin cup. Dont ask where I got that explaination from its the first thing I thought of. So a lower thuddier noise?

im thinking just take the cam bearings off one at a time and inspect them. should be able to get away with not taking the timing belt and stuff off that way. just annoying done so much stuff to it and more things keep playing up.

yeah i know no bearing as such but you can have the cam "cap" fail and it damages the cam and the head as no bearing between it. ill be taking it apart to try do the valve stem seals with the head on

I have exactly the same sound from my engine at the moment. I have been told by my mechanic friend that it is the valves - but that's without taking anything apart yet.
He is going to do it for me, but I need specs and stuff. Anyone have any idea on the requirements or specifications of the valve reshim?

0.15-0.25mm (in) 0.25-0.35mm (ex) so if they are out you have to measure the shim in there now and add or subtract what you need to get the correct clearance then order the closest shim.
