So I have just discovered that one of the hoses connecting to the turbo has a split running up it almost 2 inches long. The hose is still intact and isn't actually leaking yet.

The car has a high mount Garrett gt3037. The hose that has split says ' 3/8 Jayco trans oil cooler hose' and is held onto the turbo and the bottom of the block via hose clamps ( I think its a water hose?). I need to replace this hose obviously but I am getting mixed advice as to whether to replace it with a braided one? Which should I go with?

Any help is appreciated guys.

SOunds like it is actually an OIL Drain hose or Oil Supply ..

Im guessing Oil Drain hose if it was under pressure ( being supply ) it would be spraying out and catching fire .

Probably Oil Drain . You can use a braided one if you wish , but proper Oil hose should suffice . It gets hot under there hence why some opt for Braided , however cheap braided lines might be worse .

Factory runs rubber OIL return hoses and they last for years .

It turns out it was a water hose. There are two water hoses and I replaced them both which was pretty straight foward. I couldn't believe how brittle they both were one snaped off above the hose clamp after I had loosened it and attempted to remove the hose. I had to pick little bits of hose off the turbos fittings that had just melted on.

I turned the engine over and oil started pissing out of where the braided oil hose where it connects to the AN Fitting. I had picked away 'some black stuff'from this spot just prior which initially I thought was just grit and grease. After reading up a bit on AN fittings I think it might have been the tape left on the braided hose when it was cut to length, and I think this may cause the mechanical seal to become unsealed! ( I probably knocked it a few good times working on the other hoses next to it)

Now I'm trying to reseat the braided hose into the AN fitting and not getting far at all. Is there any way to reseat this hose and get a good mechanical seal without removing the entire hose? I have tried cutting it with tape on it but the spuring off of the metal makes it too hard to get into the fitting.

are you trying to re-join an old AN fitting onto some old hose?

how about you just purchase these and be done with the headache and possiblity of engine bay fires..

edit: wrong picture. alternatively you can purchase either nylon braided hose or stainless hose by the meter. or even go to an engineering shop that does hydraulics and get them to make up the hoses you need. takes about 10 mins max if you have lengths already. they usually use AN fittings too and the crimp on collars they use for the fittings are good for up too 5000psi.
