I'm onto my 3rd TT soarer now and for the first time having trouble working out what's wrong with it.

It feels strangled for power up top.

It has a full exhaust system 3inch going into twin 2.5inch. I've done a BFI mod to the airbox and it has highflowed stock twins.

It's running an EBC which holds the boost nice and steady.

Down low it feels fine. Feels like it has good power but once you start to cross around 80km/h it feels like it's choking or something. You feel the power dropping off and it seams pointless revving it to the redline.

I have pulled fault codes and got a code 25. Searching through other threads I saw mention that it can be caused by blocked Fuel filter or poor earthing?

I replaced the fuel filter last night and made some thick earthing cables and added it to the existing. ie: Extra earth going to engine and another going to chasis (on top of existing earth).

ECU is standard and I bypassed FCD for now. Boost is set to 12psi.

I have tried swapping map sensors from my wife's soarer but it has made no difference. I also tried swapping ECUs.

I'm installing a wideband meter tonight to see what's happening with the a/f ratios. It had a new o2 sensor installed last year.

I'm thinking maybe the cat is blocked? but no way of looking at it. I can't even reach it with my scope cam as the exhaust is one complete system.

Anyone else had this problem?

fuel pump might be on its way out? if its working fine under normal load then struggles under high load thats what i would be looking at.

try and bridge the fuel pump ecu. im fairly sure it the F/P and the B+ ports in the diagnosics port under the bonnet near the pelenium. just use a paper clip to bridge the ports and take it for a run to try it out, it doesnt hurt anything it just bypasses the fuel ecu and put the 12V power directly to the pump.

my FP ecu itself a few weeks ago and i also have a walbro (which is meant to run on 12V anyway) the FP ecu limits the power that goes to the FP back to about 9V i think. i found my pump to be alittle loader but i think i picked up alittle more power due to the pump being able to pump allittle faster at high revs. at the moment i have just left the paperclip in but will be doing the bypass mod this weekend hopefully anyway.

Bridged the fuel pump ecu on the way home from work, but it made no difference to the way the car runs. Will see what the wideband tells me.

Blocked Cat . Dont bother looking at anything else . Unbolt exhaust , take car for quick spin . You will find out as soon as you get up it . ( Private road of course ... )

Also check cam timing .

Daniel, I'm glad someone else has said it. It's the first thing I said when I discovered the problem but since there's no way of inspecting it without cutting the exhaust, I've decided to exhaust all other options.

I have considered driving it without an exhaust, but a cop lives directly across the road from me which keeps me from doing it, although it's quite tempting as a 100km/h zone is only 1km down the road!

Finally finished hooking up the wideband and looks like it's going to be the cat. Went rich off the scale under full boost.

Did a vacuum test when I got home and it dropped noticeably when held at 3.5k.

So I dropped the exhaust, knocked the cat out and re-welded. Went for a spin and I finally have full power!
Ordering a new cat and will weld some flanges on to make future inspections possible.

I was wondering if by chance you had a check engine light to go with this problem? Mine has a similar issue right now that I'm trying to diagnose, however have no means of testing as I'm in the middle of a single conversion.

Nope, no check light or anything else to tell me there is an issue with the cat.
