hey guys, ever since i got my soarer it has hesitated/ misfired under heavy acceleration, even with stock boost
at first i checked the coils to find they all have hairline cracks so i glued the cracks and wrapped electrical tape around the stems, that did nothing, so i tried new plugs (BKR6E) gapped to .8mm, that also did nothing, then tried gapping the plugs to .6mm which also made no difference
so now i'm not sure what else to try, all that i can think of is buying new coil packs, any ideas?

Sounds like your coil-packs are gone! Try replacing your coil-packs, glue isn't going to do too well under extremely hot temperatures and your electrical tape will probably melt. Give that a try mate. Unfortunately superspark coil packs are retailing for $499 - http://www.modyourcar.com.au/superspark-coil-packs--toyota-1jz2jz-p8725
But you can probably find them cheaper elsewhere. Could also be your turbo's, are they blowing out any blue smoke?

Once my coil packs had too many cracks , didnt matter how much i glued them up , they were (*&^ED !!!
Bought genuine new ones and havent looked back since !
You best bet is contacting Kurt @ Elmhurst Toyota in the USA . With the dollar so strong at the moment , shouldnt cost more than 600 landed including new coil pack connectors me thinks !

Yeah if its blowing out blue smoke it usually means that your seals are going, from what I've read the only way to fix this is to either get your turbo's rebuilt or buy another second hand pair! I know right now your thinking what a nightmare but once your iron out the issues you'll love it!
Second hand turbo's I think you can pick up for about $300...but definitely test out someone else's coilpacks firstly, and I'd recommend super sparks because their cheaper and work better with the higher temps, not to say that stock won't but their pretty good coilpacks! Regardless of whether your coilpacks are the issue or not which I strongly believe they are, I'd definitely get your turbo checked out, it could be contributing especially when you give it a squirt and all these issues start

Not necessarily, could be valve stem seals as well. Bit of blue smoke at startup wont be a problem, if it does it continually I would be worried.

Crap, where is the tests and proof to say they work better at higher temps. You can get stock coil packs from the US delivered to your door for as cheap or cheaper than Superspark.

Jeff I use super spark and it's just a personal preference and I'm sure there are a lot of others out there that would agree with me, especially when your boosting higher than usual, I haven't had any problems since using super sparks.
Anyway Jacob, either stock or super spark coilpacks will do the job in checking out your existing coilpacks, and if your car is constantly blowing out blue smoke, I'd definitely get it checked out.

The guys using supersparks, Are you comparing them to crapped out OEM or new OEM??
Obviously they will perform better than the crapped out ones they replaced....
From what I've seen (not personally tried) they are pretty much on par with new OEM, however no one knows how long they'll last. OEM have proven to last 15+ years and handle over 500rwhp with a DLI.

I'm comparing them to my crapped out OEM ones! I got mine cheaper than OEM so no complaints here... plus I've heard some people vouch for them, I do...but in general I think a good working set of coilpacks is a great start.
