Hi,

My Soarer suddenly accelerates when I'm lightly applying the throttle, i could be taking off accelerating with maybe 40-50% throttle and all of a sudden it will give a surge of power, I think it may be downshifting, other soarers i've driven haven't done this, they just give nice acceleration in the current gear there in without much gas at all...... maybe it's a bad throttle position sensor tricking the transmission into doing weird things

Does anybody else have this happen to them, ussually I think it should only downshift when about 70%+ is given. I've tried in N and P aswell.

This is a 1jz conversion into a 87 Soarer, thought it was because one of the speed sensors was not hooked up but even after I got it hooked up well now with no error codes, it still does it.

Has anybody experienced anything Similar?

As with sorting out the small issue i got in my misfiring/idle thread, I got a spare ECU/ISCV to try and now am thinking of getting a spare TPS to try

Any ideas welcome.

Cheers.

5mm of slack when? when the throttle is fully opened? Mine has about 1cm of slack when throttle fully open, e.g when i fully open the throttle, I can pull out about 1cm more of the line pressure cable.

Most manuals seem to say adjust it so the little notch on the cable just sticks out of the boot about a mm, that's how i've done mine and I've checked other peoples Soarers and that's how it's adjusted too.

Cheers mate.

weird I have heaps more slack when the throttle is fully closed. I thought the location of the notch on the cable was supposed to just show from the rubber boot that's how i've seen most of them adjusted.

Hi Guys, anyone have any more Ideas?

It doesn't seem to be Autobox related as it does it in gear so it's not shifting down a gear. It's most noticable in 2nd gear it feels like the handbrake is on and you slowly give it gas and then all of a sudden in begins revving and boost rises about 4 PSI without any additional throttle.

Any ideas?

It's a non VVTI 1jz-gte, it ussually does this when I'm cruising and giving it gas lightly, and does it about 2500-3000rpm in 2nd gear where it will feel like the handbrake is on but it did it in 1st gear aswell. It basically feels like your driving with a handbrake on, then it begins revving/boosting all of a sudden, not sure if i've seen it do it at other RPM ranges

yeah man thats when they start making boost so you would hope to feel a sudden surge of acceleration. Or we wouldnt buy them

Just doesn't seem normal though, no other 1jz cars i've driven have done this. I'ts like something is choking it back and then it begins boosting all of a sudden with the same amount of throttle
