Yeah and a very fine soldering iron required to rework or you end up with man-made faults as well (don't ask how I know!).
All but one of the V8 ones I've seen were fixed that way, the last one is probably a man-made fault as the original fault is no longer evident but a new one is
Makes buying 2nd hand a risky business.

hummm.....

a chip could have been fried in the process if too much heat was applied.

I'll take a look at if you like who knows a fresh mind may spot something that you missed.

Yes they can, the Mines ECU I had was doing the same thing as Mikes. Got the caps replaced and it was fine. Contact Damian Ware, he should be able to do it for you.

i am on the other side of the world though... Jamaica :-)

i am hoping i can pop it open tomorrow, see a bad capacitor, and just have a technician replace it.

Camron - Have a look at this thread
http://soarercentral.com/sc-forum/messages/285/252586.html
It would be best to replace all five at once. Make sure you get a tech with good soldering skills.

done!

ok, i got all the caps except for the 13uf (used 13uf instead)

the technician took no time to change them

after re-installing though, same problem

i gave him back (starting to wonder if it was really the ecu) then he 'ran through' it once more going over all the solders on the circuit board

i then tried it a second time and it revved out smooth :-)

thanks a million guys, wish i took pics but i was at work.

big ups to soarercentral.com and thank you Jeff!
