like the thread says:

I have destroyed 3 radiator caps this year.

The latest one i bought only 3 weeks ago and already the rubber appears to have melted!

Car does not overheat.
So is there a deeper problem with my car or do i just need a good quality radiator cap like greedy?

cheers

Sounds like you have something really nasty mixed with the coolant that is eating the rubber.

the last one i bought was from autobarn (CMC) i think it is. he gave me one with an increased bar, and it was going fine untill yesterday when we had the hot day.

I replaced the coolant with Nulon and gave the system a good flush out. so i dont think there should be something nasty in the system.

Any other ideas at all guys would be great.

I always run Toyota genuine coolant . Never had any dramas .

My mate runs it in his 800rwhp 1UZ as well . Like he said , toyota made it for these engines with the right additives .

Don't run an increased pressure cap if you're still running the stock plastic tank soarer radiator.

hey peter i did try and post some pics up but got error messages. Just think of it as a just a cap with some rubber, everything else is gone.
Im using nulon ultra cool. So yes green coolant.

I took the cap back to autobarn and he gave me a replacement saying it could be faulty but like i said this has happened 3 times already so im really worried theres something else going on. I know ones stuufed because i get that bubbling noise coming from the expansion tank.

yeah dan its all stock, havnt modified anything on the car. do you really think i could do some serious damage? i got the highest temp cap but still nothing hardcore.

Dave i was really hoping i hadnt blown a head gasket, no signs of it as of yet. coolant remains fresh and green but that is a concern of mine, wasnt sure however.

cheers for all your help so far guys.
The new radiator cap i will monitor and see how long it lasts this time......

Go to a radiator shop and they can run some quick tests.

A cracked head or gasket can allow hot gases to leak into the coolant without any other obvious sign. They test for this by sucking some of the air in the radiator through a liquid that changes colour if exhaust gases are present.

By increasing the rating of the cap, you are simply putting the entire cooling system under higher pressure.

My bet is everything to do with what I mentioned above and not the cap itself.

Any chance that the seat that the cap seals against is damaged?

Big is good as it usually shows more detail. I am not sure that I am seeing any damage though?

Pretty sure it shouldnt have that hole in the middle ? Am i right ?

Fcatory is 0.9 bar for the rad cap . Running a higher pressure will only stress the system more than needed .
