Japan's climate is similar to NZ; are you sure about that? Seen how much snow they have atm? What about the days in Summer when you can't breathe. The winter wind that cuts through a scarf and beanie. And I'm not talking about Hakone either. I'm going there next month and not sure if I'm looking forward to it yet, its going to be winter still for some strange reason. Global Warming? Sorry to rant.

I went febuary last year and it was freezing. Literally covered in snow in Osaka and then i went further south (closer to the equator) and my mate who took the bus got stuck in a snowstorm and his house got about 6 inches, during the day.

As for summer it's muggy as sh~t and rains a lot with lots of seasonal high wind.

The breeze is freezing cold, because like NZ it's surrounded by a giant ocean.

I'm sure a NZ'er probably would have a more accurate comparison but I've only holidayed to both and they're kind of similar :-)

(including the strange rituals!)

PS: i'm going back in june because it was so awesome last time. I spent 20 days there and it wasn't even close to enough.

I also ran into a member of this forum (The tokage drifter) while on a train to tokushima. Random huh.

Well, yesterday was expensive - tyres were down to 2mm all round so four new Proxes 4 went on. Oddly the rear tyres (NZ $215 for 245/50R16) were $10 per tyre less than the front (NZ $225 for 225/55/R16)

On top of that my WOF inspection picked up perishing front brake hoses ($70 for a pair from Toyota so that was OK) and my front pads are just about done for too - so decided to replace brake rotors at the same time. Should arrive on the courier today.

So yesterday was a very expensive day. Oh well.

Really?

OK!

I booked the plane tickets maybe 2 nights ago, it was about <1200 return for two people. So not bad.

Doing all that should at least pay off in your mind, because even though it cost a bit you can feel totally safe when braking and cornering again now :-)

Putting on new rotors and pads just the other day, i used RDA's and RBC Greenstuff pads because the stock pads/rotors made the car feel so sluggish to slow. The difference was pretty nice. I'm super happy i did it.

Rotors and brake hoses replaced.

Take a look at this...

Just one of several cracks on each side - scary. This was probably the worst one, but they all look pretty life threatening to me.

You can see the old rotor in the background, down to 26.24mm on this one, and 26.4mm on the other - so right on the money for replacement time.
