Hi all,

My TT 1jz is running rich I think.

I can smell fuel after I have been for a drive, not even driving hard.

Also there is a load of black crap around the bodykit near the exhausts.

One day I was also idling in the garage, the exhaust tip was about 10cm from a piece of wood on the back wall of the garage, wasn't idling for long, maybe 10 mins max. There was a black cicle on the wood and there must have been fuel in it as it started to dribble down the wood.

hard to describe, I'll post a pic shortly

I get 500km's max from a tank, sometimes less. I got about 550km's once which included a return trip from Melbourne to Bendigo.

So what should I do.

Replace spark plugs
Replace o2 sensor
Reset ECU - Already done

Anything else?

I have a 3" to 2.5" exhaust,
POD filter (not enclosed)
FMIC
10psi without a bleed valve/boost controller.

Get the capacitors replaced in the main ecu if you haven't done already, that's supposed to improve fuel consumption in some cases.

hmm OK, any idea how to do that. I assume it's a send away job.

Do you know anyone who can do a swap, that is you leave a refundable deposit, they send you a new ECU and then you get your deposit back when you send the original one back?

any other ideas?

The other place to check is that the pressure isn't making it come out the cap the black mark on the wood could be from the condensation in the exhaust

Sorry Carl, I didn't really understand the first part of your post. What about the pressure?

Yeah not sure about the condensation, this was back in December and the car was parked in the garage so I don't think that's the cause.

check for vacuum leaks first...would be the most common problem in any car. If visual inspection fails try spraying carby cleaner around vacuum lines and inlet manifold and listen for changes in idle speed.

O2 sensor is probably dead. Check your plugs first, if they're dark you know its running richer than it should be. Plugs are usually a good place to start when diagnosing problems like that.

That said, I've never known a turbo car to not spit carbon before they warm up.

Just filled up this morning. I got 556km's out of a tank and there was 5L left when I filled up.

So it's getting around 12.59 L/100km's

This is the most I have ever gotten out of a tank...and the thing is I haven't changed anything!

This was driving around town too!

I get the feeling something is intermittently playing up.

I will be replacing the spark plugs over Easter, possibly the o2 sensor as well if I feel game.

I also ordered the caps for the ECU, so we will see how it goes.

It just seems crazy that I got better economy out of this tank then when I drove 400km's in the county (I only got 500km's out of that tank).

Anyway won't cost me much

$20 for the capacitors
$90 for spark plugs (which are probably due anyway)
Maybe $80 for an o2 sensor if I can get one.

Does anyone know what part no. I need for the o2 sensor? It's a TT 1jz.

Also I understand the o2 sensor is non standard, how does a replacement fit in?

Do a search, there are numerous threads on O2 sensors.

Here's one I found earlier:
