When i cold start my car, it knocks 3-4 times after it kicks over. I was told it's because the oil is too thin, is this true? Could anything else cause this?

Find a good semi synth 20-50 if you can, but lucas/moreys oil stabilizer works magic too! Add X amount of lucas to a fresh batch of oil and you'll be laughing.

ever since i put the power fc in my car my engine knocks alittle on start up aswell. the fc starts and idles at 1800rpm until it gets warm then the revs come down. the stock ecu normally starts and lets the oil pressure build for half a second before raising the rpm. if its knocking on the stock ecu then try what daniel has said and it will come good. or just leave it alone, as long as you dont flat foot start it, it will be ok.

knocking on the stock ecu :/ lol. it starts perfectly fine, it's just once it does it makes 3-4 knocking sounds then it goes away. What's the oil stabilizer do? Is that like that goopy stop smoke stuff or?

Lucas oil stabiliser works wonders with startup . Everything always has a film on it to eliminate wear on start up as well as stopping oil break down with high workloads .
There is a mineral one and synthetic one depending on what oil you like to use .
I just run nulon 20-50 high km oil with 1 l Lucas stabiliser .

I want to stick with penrite seeing as I've never had a problem with it before, there's HPR30 20-50 with the extra 10 to make it 20-60, and there's one that's got extra zinc and one without, neither of them say synthetic or not, any idea which one to get?

Ok so I went hpr30 20w-60 no zinc and 1l Lucas oil stabilizer. So how would this process go? Put 3l oil in, then the 1l oil stabilizer then oil again till the dip stick reads full? I'm draining the oil right now so if anyone can get back to me ASAP that'd be good.

Yeah says 20% of total input, the thing takes about 4.8l so we put 750 mil in and topped up with oil, shes much quieter now, just hope the 20w isn't too heavy for it..

Hey Enzo I've been running HPR 30 in my AE82 Corolla 16v engine for many years. Now done nearly 400,000k's with no problems and doesn't use a sceric of oil. Of course not using the oil stabiliser as you are but you have a knock. As long as you warm it properly and are light on the noise pedal until it's warm I think it should sort your problem and give your engine longer life.

I never really warm up , start car and back straight out . Light throttle until temps are up then it's whatever is required .
Cars noisy and I don't like idling at 1200rPm at 6 in the morning , hehe . Still going along .
I normally drop the oil when warm , change filter then I drop in 3 l , then all the Lucas oil stabiliser , then top up 1l of oil . Start and check Then top up to suit once warmed up .
