hahaha 50,000 is way too long.
Most people recommend toyota, and if you just rock up to the parts department and they should know. Someone will come along with the number shortly though.

jason its a Z418 type filter you can get any brand you want eg. ryco,k&n, drift ect. i use the drift filters as they have a 17mm nut soldered on the back and makes it easy to deal with.

Depending on the relocator kit you have, it may take pretty much any filter. The kit I bought came with a Z9 ford filter, but I use the Z418 stock one when I do an oil change. Most have pretty much the same thread. It's worth paying a little more for a better quality filter, you only change it every 5000Km or so, so a couple of extra bucks is nothing. "They all filter oil the same way", but some do a better job than others.

If you don't want to spend a lot of money then I'd go with Fram - they have a graded range of filter quality so you can pick one to suit your budget. Ryco are much better than they used to be but I'd still pick a higher quality brand or OEM for the couple of extra dollars it'll cost you.

You should be changing your oil every 5000km's and no longer then 10000kms. If you're doing it propperly every 5000, then you may as well get ryco becuase your filter wont exactly be getting clogged or not filtering well and nor should your oil.
Better do get a cheap brand and change it often than an expensive brand and not change it. Replacing the oil 'filters' it best.

dam Aiden you must have tiny hands because i can touch it but there is no hope in hell im turning it by hand plus everything bites in there
and Darren if you were to just put the sandwich plate on and then the filter on top of it i would guess it would be harder but you never know your luck

I got sick of trying to get my hand in and undo the filter. Do-able but painful. Solution: Oil filter relocator from Autobarn. Filter is now below passenger side foot pan. Jack up the passenger side of the car, reach under and unscrew the filter, drop the sump plug and change the oil. Screw on a new filter and away I go. Got the idea for the location from I think it was Ben's track car. Ryco filters, 220k km. Great engines!

No the k&n is not worth the extra $$$
I have only ever used ryco (GUD Manufacturing) on everything i have owned (and its a long list) and so do all my mates some of which own 1200+hp and 7 second drag cars
Ryco is on our fleet of Hiace with my 2007 having 480000km on it, oil/filter is changed every 10000km
I use ryco because they're everywhere and they work, i dont fall for the more $$ the better it will perform (unless its a dedicated high performance filter) as theres only a few companies that manufacture filters like Denso that make toyota filters
K&N is made by the same company that supplies AC delco, Bosch, Mobil 1
Just a note the Ryco Z9 has over 100 square inches of extra filtering surface than the K&N equivalent
Actually the Z9 has the largest filter surface area of any other equivalent

Ryco are far better than they used to be 10 years ago - no doubt about it. I've always found K&N products to be over priced and under performing.
Reading some of the comments about contortions to replace the filter makes me glad I have a 2JZ! I only have to get under the car to undo/tighten the sump bolt, the rest I can do from up top and the filter is very easy to get at. Even easier on my Wife's 1ZZ!

The k&N is nothing special just a normal filter made by champion labs with some fancy paint and a K&N logo to suck people in, and to make thing worse its old element technology no longer used by champion labs
Its the same filter as a the cheaper Mobil 1
The nut on the end would be the ONLY thing it has going for it and its unlikely that it will be any better than the ryco
Ryco protects fleets all over Australia that work harder cop more abuse and cover more distance than just about any Soarer
Its personal preference i guess, i use K&N air filters and i know they do a terrible job at filtering for the minimal gain in flow over a paper filter, But i like them as theres always something to suit my odd applications, I dont think they're worth the extra cost but i dont care

yeah have pretty much seen all of them tests and they all vary from test to test
The k&n may filter better than other hiflow filters but they fall well behind when compared to oem paper filters
what im saying is the small gain in flow doesn't outweigh the significant loss in filtration over OEM, say if your going to use a K&N in your 4x4 that sees a lot of dusty roads its recommended to fit one of their foam prefilters (which pretty much takes away any flow gain) and will reduce the filtering surface making it clog sooner
None of this is needed with an OEM paper filter because they are great at filtering small particles and have a huge surface area
Even that test you posted shows that the k&n isnt worth the extra as it gets shown up by a filter 1/5th its price
