I am getting a whine sound under boost, even just before boost comes on.

I am thinking one of the turbo's has blown.

Any idea's.

There is a quick video clip where you can hear it, I am not boosting hard either, maybe 5psi when I recorded this.

Running 10psi natural boost with a catback and pod filter, no boost controller.

Time to replace both turbo's?

Could be a boost leak , or the death siren . Check all pipe work and lines , also check exhaust near dumps for leaks too .

Hmm OK thanks.

It first started in the past 3 days, I could only hear it after being on full boost for a few seconds.

Now I can hear it whenever I am on boost, even just 1 psi.

Just gonna bite the bullet and get them rebuilt with steel wheels. I'm not going to bother high flowing them, the car is quick enough already.

And I'm sure the steel wheels will be capable of running 14psi which is all I am ever going to want to run.

Munroe Racing Turbo's in Brisbane are going to do the rebuild for $800.

Alistair, sounds like something's not quite right. Checked all the intercooler piping? My brothers TT made that noise when it popped off under heavy acceleration.

But yeah, steel wheeled sounds good :-)

Yeah James, not really sure. I just bought a set of twins on eBay for $200. Getting dropped off at Munro at Monday.

Honestly the turbo's are going to fail at some point. A cheap opportunity has come up where I can get a full set of steel wheel's for $1000 and my car doesn't have to be off the road at all.

I can then sell my stock's for $200 to someone in a similar situation.

I'm not so sure it's a boost leak as the boost gauge still reads fine, and that's pulling the info from the throttle body so I would have thought I would see a drop.

I'll check all cooler piping tonight but if it all checks out then I am just gonna keep it under 3000 RPM until I get the rebuilt turbo's back. I don't want to risk it and break the ceramic wheel apart.

I'm thinking of doing the same thing mate and getting steel wheel's, is that pretty much the only weakness when it comes to the 1jz engines, the ceramic turbos?
