Hi all.

in the last two days my vvti 1J has developed a squeaking noise, kind of like a bearing needing replacement on the front of the motor. Seems to come from near the power steering pump. However once the car has warmed up and has had a good drive, the squeak goes away - why would this be?
I hate this noise, especially on such a new quiet car where everything else works perfectly.

Guessing the only way to find out would be to take off the serpentine belt, see what's making the noise? Guessing this is the best place to start looking?

Try some belt lube 1st . Also use a hose to your ear to pin point where it's cOming from . Could be an idler pulley or even a worn belt .

Lube 1st then see how you go

Also check power steering fluid level and hoses for leaks . Only other thing that can get noisy sometimes is the tensioner pulley for the cam belt .

Also check the harmonic balancer. The rubber that holds the inner ring to the outer perishes and separates, and it'll make a squeaking noise like a belt slipping (until eventually it comes right off - and that's a bad thing)

I will get to the bottom of this. Thanks both for your help. I'll take a look at the previous owners service history to see what's been changed and what's not been changed.

Yeah , my balancer spun off at 7000rpm .... Lucky it went under the car , dented my cannon when it bounced up !

Was squeaking real bad when the ac was on , otherwise quiet ....

Ok - so put some graphite on the belt. Squeak has gone.. (for now) how odd.. maybe a new serpentine belt if it gets noisy again
