Hi all
as the title states I installed a walbro fuel pump just the other day and the engine light comes on after a few minutes of driving.
the car looses power
I turn the car off and it runs fine for a few minutes and then it comes on again?

Any advice would be good.
I have done the ecu bypass and still the same problem.

What could it be?

put car into diagnostic mode and find out what error code is being thrown at you.

I have the pov pack so I don't have that option.
I think it works on blinks?
Unsure I have never used the diagnostics port.

If some one could help it would be appreciated.

in the ENGINE BAY not the cabin, on the passenger side of the engine just next dip stick you'll see this fella

open him up and you need to wedge a paper clip or similar (bit of speaker wire) in the ports labeled te1 and e1

then hop in your car turn the ignition to on, one light on the dash should start blinking, i cant remember which one does you then right down the flashes and they corespond to the numbers in the soarer central link i posted. but your dash should look something similar to this

so say error 55 comes up. it'll flash 5 time then a pause and flash another 5 times then a long pause to say thats the end of the error code so basically "o_o_o_o_o__o_o_o_o_o____" gives you error code 55. 4 flashes and then 3 flashes gives you error code 43.

you can also press the scroll button and it will come up with some other things anything with a NG besides it means NOT good. if you leave it on there for a second it should come up with something like "EFI NG" and then display the error number. there's a bunch of guides out there that will tell you how to do this.

Shane thanks for the info bud, I was unsure of the blinking ratios.
I will give it a go on Saturday and see what the failure could be.
Im sure it has something to do with the pump as it was all fine prior.
Thought may be it needed to run more power through a relay from battery?

Has anyone else come across this problem after installing a GS3441 pump?

Thanks for your help

Ok thanks to shane I have got the code or the blinks which equal to code 52
Now doing some research shows its the knock sensor.

Could this be because the larger fuel pump is over fueling on a standard ECU?

No it won't overfuel . The psi is the same via fuel regulator , it just means it won't run out of fuel up top or lean out .

If its leaning out it will knock .

Weird issue though . Seems unrelated to me .

Reset the Ecu clear the codes and see if it returns .

Thanks Daniel,

I reset the ECU for a good 30min took it for a drive and it ran well almost like it came back to life loss traction in first, second etc.

After about 10,15 min it came back same issue.
I dont think it could be the pump I can hear it working fine.

may have to consider knock sensor/Wire or may be ECU?

just strange that it happen just after the pump install.

Yeah I reckon coincidence .

If you search for knock sensor issues , they show pics where they are . However , most have been a wiring issue and have had a busted wire from the harness near the rear of the inket manifold or the plug that connects to the sensor .

You could try rewiring them . Is that code for front or rear ?
Don't suppose you've had an oil leak from the cam covers travel down and cover the sensor or plug ?

Hey Daniel the sensor is the first one.
I was actually thinking it may be oil from power steering. I noticed the cap and surrounding area to have a fair amount of oil. I think the cap may be leaking as the hoses are new.

Will check that tomorrow.
Thanks for the advice man, may be onto something there.

Maybe degrease it clean it up good then see if it helps . Reset again after and then test drive .

I've only had that code once . Cleared Ecu and never returned . So I dOnt have the fix , only what I've read and heard over the years .

Hey Christian how did you go with this, any solution?

I was driving on the weekend and for the first time ever my engine light came on but still drove perfectly. Then switched the car off and it went away. Have been driving all week and no engine light, but was driving home tonight and it came on again...

Its funny u mention the power steering leak, i noticed the hose from the reservoir on mine was oily as there must be a slow leak somewhere, so i sprayed degreaser all over it just 30 min prior to that first instance of the engine light coming on.
Just a coincidence?

Oh by the way I installed my walbro about 3 months ago and has been running perfectly, although the last week it did seem slightly noisier than what i remembered, or maybe im just focusing on it and imagining things

Ok I just did the diagnostic test, I'm also getting code 52...

I put in some 440cc injectors 2 weekends ago, wonder if perhaps this does have something to do with the knock sensor wiring

Hey Michael I have played around with the wires and I have it a good clean with degreaser but the light still appears.
When the engine light comes.on I have a noticeable difference in power.
Un sure what else it could be. Wire seems fine.

If you can put some silicon on the wire/plug to stop it from moving that's my next attempt.
Otherwise paden can fix it when he does my emanage instal.

Greddy make a knock delete to remove knock signals to ecu and stop causing timing retardation .

Well my light just came on again after driving around for a couple of hours tonight, for no apparent reason after being fine for the past few days.
And yeh it does cut the power by about half...

Sounds to me like it's going into limp mode. Have you tried contacting an auto sparky? I'm a mechanic by trade but I hate electrical problems, they do my head in!

Well after many hours later I decided to put the standard pump in and bingo no more limp mode.
Still confused as to why it was setting it of.
Maybe it was to loud and set it of?

For now it is a stock pump.

Exactly the same problem! Anyone found out what could be causing it? I just put another fuel pump ecu in I'll see how that's goes, but somehow I doubt it's going to fix this fault.
