Hi,
I am putting a A340E from a 1jz-gte behind a 2jz-gte, as it has the Shift kit and other mods on it that I'd like to have.
I've got either the choice of running the 1jz torque converter or the 2jz one ... I know my 1jz one is in good condition so I was thinking I should use it behind the 2jz.
What sort of difference would it make in the way the car drives and puts the power down? Would it be better to use the 2jz-gte Converter, or not really?

the 2jz convertor wont fit on the 1jz box, because the splines are different measurements. So you need to use the 1jz convertor, which in turn, will not bolt to the 2jz flex plate, because the spacing of the holes are very slightly different. So in summary, you need to use a 1jz flex plate (which WILL bolt to the 2jz engine) and the 1JZ convertor, to run the 1jz box. This is information that has been verified by me personally.( i have a soarer auto trans behind a 2jz motor in my project car.)

The converter will be from Aristo .... so I take it this still Won't slip onto the JZZ30 Gearbox, different spline count?
Either way I can mix and match until I find a fit.
My concern though, will the characteristics of the 1jz torque converter not bring out the best of the 2jz? I don't know much about all the tech details how a 1jz converter will behave with the extra torque of the 2jz, Perhaps the 2jz converter has Less "Flare" or different Stall speed, these things im not too clued up about.

the 1jz convertor will be fine, the extra torque should in theory mean the factory soarer 2200rpm convertor may become a 2400rpm convertor for example, but will still be pleasant to live with. The difference in the splines that i found was each section of the spline(there are two different diameter sections)of the 2jz one were of different length to the soarer, so located differently internally.

1JZ Converter it will be and 1jz Box, Thanks Guys. I might do a bit more research on Stall Speeds, "Flare" and all that as I'm wondering exactly how things like these work, have never studied it carefully.... trying to get the car to drive as best as possible here, the 2jz Box is not an Option as it seems my Shift kit wont fit it and also will not work with my Tailshaft.
If anybody has a Spare 1jz-gte Loom with Uncut Transmission plugs (All the way to the box Sensors), I'd like to know how much you want for it.
Thanks. If anybody has any more info about this Issue or their experiences let me know, cheers.

Not sure if you can easily resolve the tailshaft issue, but the problem with the shift kit issue is probably that the 2JZ-GTE box has electronically controlled line pressure, but the Soarer box is cable controlled. It would possible to swap the Soarer valve body and line pressure cable on to the Aristo/Supra gearbox.

I could use the 1jz-gte TT Valve body onto the 2jz-gte box, but the problem remains that then I still have the Driveshaft which will cost $800 to make for it.... that's the price I need to pay to retain the 2jz-gte box which is Stronger by the looks of it.
I think I might just have to use the 1jz-gte box alltogether, and Rebuild that with stronger internals when I need to later and leave the 2jz-gte box alone alltogether.
