On another note, the power steering hose which goes to this port has quite a lot of small cracks in it and seems pretty brittle, and so I also asked our friend at repco if I can just buy a generic piece of PS hose and bend it to fit and he said no, I need to buy one pre-bent into shape. Is this true or also wrong?

That person needs to get a warning as he's costing his branch sale losses. I'm sure he means well but if you continue taking advice from him you'll end up with brake fluid in your motor

You can bend most oil resistant hose without a problem so long as it doesn't kink and restrict flow beyond the pumps requirements. Some hoses are more prone to kinking on bends than others

If it does, you can buy Uni-Coil's which All Repco branches have ON THE PARTS/SERVICE DESK which are for the exact purpose that he is advising you against doing.

Heheh yeah I'll never speak to that guy again believe me! Such a spastic.

Ok so for this power steering hose, is it best to just ask for a non high pressure oil resistant hose?

Yeah so long as it's oil resistant, if it's for suction it won't need to be rated for pressure, but most likely what you'll find is the Rigid types that can handle some pressure but whatever you can get your hands on so long as it's the correct diameter.
