Hi guys, I think this oring is leaking, and toyota don't stock this part anymore. Does anyone have any specs on what to ask for in a generic oring, or would I be best to just take it into a shop and get them to match one up?

Cheers,
Mike

Michael, is the hose from the reservoir still secured with OEM springclips? if so replace them with hoseclamps this was the problem with my car , they lose tension and allow the oil to weep out, not an O ring problem

Hi John, yes I replaced that spring clip with 2 hose clamps the other day, but it is still leaking.
I wiped down the oil and went for a drive, and it really appears as though the oil is coming from around this suction port, so I'm assuming it's the oring in there...

look up bearing and seal shops in the yellow pages. something like that shouldn't cost more then 10c

they'd probably even just give you one for free, just take the old one in with you so they can get the size of it, also don't just get a rubber one, i'm fairly certain you'll need it in nitrile (same one's used in brake and fuel systems)

yeah make sure to tell them its a hydraulic seal as if you dont you might not get one suited to the pressure and the power steering fluid.

There is no pressure on that side as intake to pump. Just need to make sure the o ring is correct size and thickness and able to be used with oil so it doesnt swell. Beech automotive???? Do a replacement fitting to use speedflow fittings from memory..

Best bet is bring the Pump and the Inlet piece to Enzed who can probably find something that will fit up.

yep no great pressure but if there was none there would not be a leak there. also someone suggested nitrile which im unsure if it will work my guess would be viton but i may be wrong on that. the main reason i suggested asking for a hydraulic seal is that it will be suited to oil straight up and there is usually far more choice as far as sizing goes when compared to normal o'rings

Ali, vac line as Daniel says, flush may help, any noises?? I had one once with the cannister filter (fine wire one at the bottom of cannister) blocked with small rubber bits starving the pump of fluid.

I just went to repco to try and get a replacement oring and the guy reckons that its not an oring which you can just pull off and replace, but some special type and you need to buy the whole metal piece with the seal already fitted from toyota. And he follows up with "And I work for toyota so I know". Does that sound right??? I wouldn't have thought so...

The "O" ring is included in a seal kit, the Repco guy is full of it.

Jeez i would hate to deal with him at Toyota would end up costing a fortune for just a small thing ..

As has been said just go to enzed or the like & replace the o-ring a small screwdriver will flick it off unless its gone that hard that it just breaks up ...

When i took my power steering pump in to be serviced/rebuilt due to being noisy as all that o ring was also replaced best bet would be to go to a place that service/rebuilds them they would definitely be the best place

Ali check you dont have a bubble/egg on ya power steering hose i had one noticed my steering got heavy after going up a swirly exit off the freeway checked it the next morning lucky it didnt let go on me lmao

That guy at Repco is wrong, I have replaced these O-rings many times and can tell you they can be replaced separately and that you do not have to buy an Entire Motor just to replace that part.

Obviously if he
"Works for Toyota", he wouldn't be behind the counter at Repco would he?.

Call the branch up and tell him he is wrong, and to stop lying to people about working at Toyota, because if he actually does work for Toyota, and is anything other than a 1st Year apprentice or a Parts Interpreter new on the job, he'd know that O-ring is replaceable and not be making stupid claims without actually having worked on a cars and done this work himself to know

You can clearly see that O-ring sits in a Groove meant for it.

This is a very common Leak and nearly all 1J's and 2J's i've seen do this.

Yeah the guy is an idiot trying to make himself sound smart I assume.

Well for anyone interested, an M10x2 oring fits perfectly and seals nicely. So far no leakage for 2 days :-)

Cheers guys for the help!
