Today when I started up my twin turbo soarer and drove off it sounded a little different compared to normal.

It is hard to explain but when hitting 2000rpm + it sounded very "airey" almost like the air was escaping somewhere.
I am not sure if anyone has had the same problem or not.

Any help will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

Have a boost gauge at all?
If not, pick one up, hook it up to the intake manifold (Not the turbo side of the engine) and see what readings you get when you hit boost. If its less than 8psi you probably have a big boost leak, which would account for the airey noise you hear. You should also have a noticeable drop in power if you have such a big leak.

The other thing you should do, boost gauge or not, is drive the car up on ramps, lift the hood, and follow all the piping going out from the turbos all the way to the manifold and see if any of the joins are loose, coming off or damaged in anyway.

i have a boost gauge installed
on idle it shows -20 vacuum and max boost is around 12-13psi
so i assume this is normal

also the air sound did not happen this morning when driving off

im thinking it could be a loose connection somewhere which would account for the randomness of the air sound

thanks for your help

Is 12-13 psi what its reading now since you have heard the noise & is it the same reading you had say last week etc ..

Sometimes a blocked exhaust will give a whistling type noise, but usually not easy to hear from inside the car & will effect boost readings too ..

Start the car then get some aerosol brake cleaner and spray it on or around 1 join or intercooler pipe at a time. When you hear the revs raise up on their own it means that's where it's sucking the fumes of the aerosol in which is why the revs are lifting. That's where your leak is.

Easiest way to find a boost leak is get something that fits in the pipe that goes to airbox. I used a kids plastic cup. Tap a compressor air line fitting into it. Set your air compressor to 15psi, hook it to the fitting and pressurise the system. I always use this method for finding boost leaks, hasn't failed me yet. I'll try to take some pics tomorrow to help explain.
