My car overheated and blew all the water out of the radiator cap this morning. I've just installed a pod but haven't made a box for it yet and my mechanic said its about time to change the water in my radiator as it looked like didn't have much coolant in it. Would/could these two factors alone cause it to overheat? And since I pulled over almost immediately and switched off the engine (within 30 seconds of the warning coming on) is it likely to have caused any damage to anything?

POD filter is not going to have affected your car over heating.
the main thing that you could have damaged is the head gasket.
i'd be: dumping all the coolant flushing it as per the guide in the "how to" section buy a new radiator cap re fill test car and see if it still over heats
then take it to a mechanic as they have some magical way of testing to see if head gasket has gone.

Dude, it overheated for a reason. I'm thinking that your Thermostat is faulty, and caused the car to overheat. Failing that, perhaps the radiator core is partially blocked internally. Crud builds up, from the bottom. Also, is there is a chance that the cooing fan is not working? seeing you caught it early, you have most likely saved your motor from cracking or warping the head. well done.

I'm thinking now the engine overheated after the water pissed out! It was due to a sketchy radiator cap I think it feels very loose, this coupled with minimal coolant (only boiling water!) I bought a new cap along with some anti boil coolant and problem seems to be gone when I got home this arvo I flushed the radiator and filled it up I guess il find out for sure tomorrow I have a back up lift organised in case!

Yeah all is fine now. Brand new coolant, new cap, I did a radiator flush and haven't had any problems since thanks guys. What other fluids need checking Shane?
