Hi everyone, my name is josh I'm still new here. I've only owned my 92 tt for a week or so when i test drove the car it did not blow smoke at all, On the drive home back to ballarat from geelong the missus and I stopped in at a servo for a drink and when i jumped back in to start her up again there was a alarming amount of white/blue smoke which smells like oil. Over the next few days I had dropped the old oil and replaced the oil filter, filled her up with penrite hpr15 fully synthetic. At first the smoke only appeared after giving the car a bit of a run and letting it idle for a few mins but now it seems to smoke on idle whether its cold or not. I pulled off the the intercooler piping to find a fair amount of oil sitting just after the throttle body, so i pulled all the piping off and cleaned it out even replaced the pcv valve but no luck. This evening I pulled of all the intake piping for the turbos and had a look, Theres only a very small amount of oil in the inlet housing of each turbo which i presume is normal and virtually no shaft play. I know its been a big post and I've probably missed a few things but any help would be great. Anyone else think it may be valve stem seals? engine has done 121k's regards josh

could be:
turbo oil seals piston ring seals valve stem seals head gasket
with the compression test, if you do a test and find one cylinder kind of low, then pour about a table spoon of oil straight into the cylinder via the spark plug hole crank it a couple of times then re test.
if the compression comes up quite a bit it normally means piston rings are stuffed. if no change could possible mean leaky valve.

Thankyou for your reply mate. Its not using oil. No coolant in the oil and vise versa. Doesnt get hot, and pull like a freight train so i dont think its head gasket or rings. Fingers crossed

Hi Josh
I had the exact same problem.
You drive around for a while. Stop the car for a few minutes and when you started it again smoke gushed out of the tail pipes. As soon as you started driving the smoke would disappear.
I used penrite HPR30 oil, which is a little thicker and that reduced the smoke a fair bit
Your quote below tells me it is all good. So don't worry about it and enjoy the Soarer.

Thanks george, i tried everything under the sun before giving in and pulling the turbos off, the rear turbo's exhaust housing is caked in oil which I'm guessing means oil seal on the rear turbo has gone. I'll be rebuilding them over the next few days. Cheers josh
