So i had recently picked up my Soarer from Queensland and cannon-balled from Southport to Adelaide in a day and a half, stopping overnight in Tamworth. It had been serviced with new oils and fluids a week before i picked it up going from the service receipt.
Anyway, i had been driving almost non-stop for 900 kilometers, and after a brief stint at 140, the orange low oil light came on. I rolled back to 110 and it disappeared. It then flickered intermittently for about five minutes until i stopped in Balranald, where i checked it for any leaks.
Couldn't see anything, so i topped up the oil as a precaution and drove the rest of the way home without seeing another oil light. I checked the car a day later and it has leaked oil all over the place in the driveway and covered the entire underside of the engine and trans. It's on stands in the garage and for the life of me, i can't find where the oil is leaking from. I'm new to the 1JZ, so i don't know where to look at the moment. Anyone else had this sudden oil leak issue?

Grab a torch and put on some safety glasses and have a long hard look in the area between the back of the engine and the front of the bellhousing. It could be the rear main bearing seal on the crankshaft.

That's looking from the front of the engine. I don't see how oil would be able to run backwards and then up the front from the bellhousing. Also, as i took the intercooler piping off, i found a lot of thick black oil residue inside the piping leading from the intercooler to the throttle body. Bad turbo seals or PCV valve? It doesn't blow any smoke, but the amount of residue inside the pipes is making me concerned.

I had a similar leak years ago.

It came from the oil pressure switch near the A/C condenser. An easy & cheap fix, just need to swing the compressor to get access.

Degrease it and go from there to trace the source.

I'll shift the A/C compressor out of the way tomorrow and check it. I'll also be checking the PCV valve and rocker cover gasket first too. I don't like the fact that there was old oil in the intercooler piping, but i'm going to track down this external leak first. Don't want to get ahead of myself and start another full engine rebuild just yet.

Update. The cam seals and oil pressure switch are all good, it was the front main seal and the intake-side cam cover gasket that were leaking. Replacing both the cam seals and front main seal as it only cost me 25 bucks to get all three. The cam seals i had picked up before i started the thread.

Oil in the intake is a turbo seal, but i'll live with it for a while. On a more annoying note, i went to check the spark plugs to see their condition and the plugs are stuck in the head, i can't get even a quarter turn on them. My bet is the last person to change the plugs did not grease the thread, and it's been about ten years since the last major service was done.
So that's going to be fun to solve... not.
