Hey all, well got the new car today, and on the way home this evening, something happened. I was cruising at about 15km/h, after idling for about 6mins while i was on the phone, as i took off, i went to give it a little stick, and before i got over 20kmh, it started idling out on me.
Had to limp home, smoking rather badly, the BOV making weird on/off noises all the time, engine wasnt making power, and was splutttering and missing the whole way home.
The scary thing, the engine sounded louder from the exhaust (im hoping because it needed more revs to make the same speed as normal, and not becasue a turbine wheel is missing!
Anyway, cant see much out there tonight, so i've left it for morning. During my quick squiz, i checked the intercooler hoses (fine) most of the vaccuum lines im aware of (fine) and thats about it.
The way the motor was farting, its as if the MAP sensor is disconnected or something, i just dont know.
I searched, but kind find a checklist of things to look for.
Is there a difinitive way to tell if you have lost a turbine wheel?

Very strange Aaron. Was fine when you picked it up obviously coz you were fanging then.
I'm not a turbo expert but there are a few on here that might point you easier than me, but obviously start with the basics.
In the light tomorrow, check hoses etc. Make sure that the red / blue silicon hoses to the boost contoller havent moved against an exhaust and fried or something silly like that.
The boost controller switch is that silver one in front of your left knee. Forward for low and towards you for high from memory. I ran it high all the time.
It's been running only on BP Ultimate so try and stick with that if available.
The car runs a Blitz air filter. Make sure this hasnt dislodged or blocked up with something!
Manny might be able to point you at things to check and Lew if we can find him.
Check battery terminals also. That's the new battery but check them anyway. TT's need really good voltage supplies and if TNT left anything on, then the volts may be down. I presume this is in the dark so you were running headlights also?
Also, check under the car. Who knows how many times the car has been moved on and off trucks over the last two weeks. Check to make sure that the exhaust hasn't been damaged or crushed somewhere.

well, i started with the basics like always, checked the filter, checked all the vaccuum hoses, the map, the elec connections to the map, even the FPR and under the car to have a squiz at the dumps and 'tap the cat' and have a listen for any turbine wheels! None there PHEW! So after it sat for a while, I then started it up . Ran well for 3 secs, then dropped idle down to about 300rpm and stalled. So pulled out the 30amp chip from the fuse box. (all three of them, if you include the spades!) went inside for a piss, then put em back in. Started her up, she idled at 500rpm for 2 secs, then climbed up to about 7-800. Stuck her in 'D' and took off, she was rumbly pumbly for a bit, then with a bit of stick she got better, then i slowed down to check the idle and she purred.
So, I wonder what the hell that was about. One thing I noticed, was when they pulled the car off the truck, there was HEAPS of unburnt fuel exiting the pipes for a while. At first I was a little concerned, but figured that since it hadn't been driven for a while with a piggy back attached, it could need a little 'reminding' of its intended use. Just went for a spin with the missus then, running beautifully. Im trying to convince her to buy one ( a V8 for the lady, no doubt!) and shes actually a little jealous too, what with me in a sleek black coupe, and her in a BA falcon. Hehe, I dont miss my Benz one bit!!

If it happens again, check the connections to the Piggyback controlling fuel. No doubt its probably causing the issue. Even if the MAP sensor is working fine, the piggyback may have a connection problem causing a loss of MAP signal to the ECU. When this happens, exactly those symptoms occur.. down to the word.
It pops and farts but goes no where. Mine stalls or doesnt start with the MAP disconnected, other emanage installs ive done suggest that most soarers still idle and putt along, but overly rich, almost bogging out.
