Hey Guys/Gals... In the last couple of weeks, i have noticed sometimes when i start my car(specially when cold) it seems to sometimes have a puff of white smoke! Its not alot, and not all the time, but i have no idea what it is! Valve guides? Turbo Seals? PC Valve?

Any help would be great :-)

The ECU runs the engine quite rich on a cold start. You may be getting a touch of that stuff you get when you breath out on cold mornings and you look like you are smoking and all the kiddies go "AWESOME! YOU ARE SMOKING!"

Hmm, hope so. noticed it also did it yesterday in the middle of the afternoon, Mind you, the car was stone cold... Will keep an eye on oil levels and such. May also check the PcValve(or whatever it is,hehe) Cheers Callum!

Youre welcome ^_^

If you notice that it gets a little worse, or even for piece of mind, an ECU reset wont hurt. Might help if there is some whacky tune it has going.

White smoke isn't usually anything to worry about unless it smells like petrol and/or doesn't go away, then it's time for a tune, or possibly turbo issues.

Hmm... Well I dont seem to be losing any oils, And im still having the problems. Car is going to panel shop on monday for the week.

I will put a new set of Iridium plugs in it and do a whole ECU reset when i get the car back. I dont see the point when its going to sit there all week. But it has got me worrying a little..
Seems to be slightly grey in colour, not completely white.

it has to be a pretty cold morning for it to be steam.

if its a dark colour and or leaves spatters of black crap on the ground then its fuel. nothing to worry about.

but if the car is smoking on cold start time and time again then it is probably valve stem seals. its pretty much a common problem.

it will take a LONG time to show up on the dipstick as its absolutely miniscule amounts of oil being used.

my turbo seals are pretty bad and my car smokes often and it still didn't show up on the dipstick after 4 or 5 months!.

Just on the subject of oil and dipstick, the level on mine hardly drops between oil changes, but I never seem to get out as much as I then have to put back in. Discrepancy of perhaps 1 - 1.5 litres.
