does anyone know why the engine oil level (in jap writing)would be coming on when the engine oil is reading level on the stick ? it only comes on for about 5 seconds then doesnt come back on ,this only happenes only when i have it on cruise control @100kph with OD off, only seems to be coming on with higher revs, because as soon as you hit OD On ,(revs drop)the writing will go away ,i know the cruise control has nothing to do with it but it is just when i set it to a constant speed .any ideas?

Haydn, I too have the same problem. For me it just seems to come on at absolutley random times. Most of the time it only last for a few seconds too. I dont know exactly how the sensor works but i assumed it was just a dirty or faulty sensor. I just ignore it these days, but it would be nice to fix the problem.
My one gave this randomly when I'd start it even thru the oil level was at about 1/4 the way up the indicator on the stick. Topped it up even more and problem went away.

One thing you could try, would be to add a litre of oil and see if the light goes out. It might at least give a clue, but don't leave the excess oil in there unless you are sure that you have the wrong dipstick. Probably easier to borrow a dipstick and compare the length.

Like mentioned, try filling the oil upto the FULL mark then seeing if the warning stops or shows less. I was thinking if the oil was low (but not too low), certain revs or bumps in the road could cause the oil to be at such a point that the sensor would read it to be low?

are you fellas topping the oil up after replacing the filter and running the car to fill the oil galleries, filter etc?
As the oil level will drop to the low mark after that, then needs topping back up again.
I used to have a clingon message that came up if i put my boot into it in first, after many attempts i figured out it was the brake fluid level sensor playing up because of the brake fluid pushing back in the reservoir with the acceleration haha. Cleaned the sensor, flushed the brake system and i havnt had a problem since.
Have you thought about removing the sensor at your next oil change and giving it a good clean? And if you can find the specs, test the resistance through it to see if the sensor is correct?
