i have a pair of big red industrial chemical protective gloves. You know, the ones that go up to your elbows. These are awesome for getting filters off. Never had one filter that didnt come off while wearing these. They just grip sooo much, and transfer no heat. You can buy em for 10bux from supercheap.

Just teasing Callum. Each to their own!! but really, it is such a simple job, and it really helps you get to know your car better. then when you pick up that something may be wrong, you get a specialist to fix just that bit!
I find nothing more enjoyable than spending half an afternoon under my car.

HAHA Daniel =P I think my main reasons for getting someone else to do it is that i come from an industry where you can really f**k things up if you dont know what you are doing. And i dont know what im doing when it comes to cars.
I'm quite happy to pay the price, and Joe (mechanic) has enough of my trust and confidence to do what is needed to get the job done well =P

Well I have actually had more trouble from taking cars to mechanics than doing stuff myself.
1. They did the oil filter up way too tight so the only way to get it off was with a screwdriver jammed through it. This is in a corona where you can actually fit an oil filter removal tool as well
2. Did spark plugs up so tight that when I took them off the porcelan cracked on every one of them. One bit of porcelan actually fell into the cylinder and I was lucky enough to be able to vacuum it out!
Rule for me is never take my car to anyone unless they are welding or wiring. Maybe changing on these as well as I would like to learn to wel and I am going to be wiring my microtech in when it arrives.

I changed my oil myself for the first time the other weekend, it really was extremely easy to do, i'll never be paying my mechanic again to do it.. the hardest part is actually getting the filter out of the engine bay after you have undone it and getting the new one in. I must have a phantom 1j or something cause my oil filter came off piece of piss.. good tip is to use rubber washing up gloves.

Keep in mind guys, there are good mechanics and there are the rest. If you find a good one, look after him - which is why we all have so much respect for Neil.

This guy is a very smart fella. He is well respected in my area but the problem is that he is not the one who does simple jobs like this, the apprentice does.
Oh and for the record I didn't actually ask him to do these things.

I just had a look at the oil filter and my word does it look annoying to get to. There seems to be like one spot for my hand to go through and that's it. I have just bought the oil, filter and oil pan and it doesn't look like I will doing it very soon. I might have a go tomorrow to see if there is some feasible way of getting this thing off without putting any body parts out

Mine is a piece of cake!! Access from underneath should take no more then a few mins Why pay someone your hard earned $$$$ when you and your baby could just spend some quality time together getting to know one another!!
