Heya all ;
2 quick questions .
I have done a wheel rotation a month or so ago , and redid the alignment with the values found here on this site ( for TT with 17" alloys ). Car seems very hard to control now , and there's buckets of tramlining when road is bumpy , etc. My wife is swearing at me any time she has to drive it on Saturday night ( I am a professional beer drinker )...
What have the Pedders guys done wrong ;should I double check with someone else . I think it is the toe in causing it , but not 100% on it .
Second ; I am reaching 100,000 kays on this baby . I need to change the timing belt soon ; and read somewhere that you might as well change the water pump as well when you change the belt ? I had a look at it the other day ( and I went like wtf ? ) , did not seem right ; ie. I can change the pump later if need be ?

Water pump is mostly for the V8's as you have to pull everything apart to get at it, and usually fails around the 100,000 mark. Not so bad on TT's I believe - if its the same as my 3 litre its right up front anyway.
Take it back and get them to do the alignment again, sounds like they f'd it up if it was OK before hand.

Could also be related to worn control arm bushes. Most people replace the front lower bushes, but I recently had the rest done as well and it has made a very noticeable to the way the car handles even though my Soarer appears to be a "young" one for it's age.
Also, the tyre wear could well be a factor as the old rears would have worn differently to the fronts and may now be pulling the car around since they have been moved to the front.

i have rotated tyres before and will not do it again. firstly because my rears are now a lot wider thatn my d=fronts, but also the tyres over time become shaped differently. rears will be much squarer than fronts and can cause tramlinng when put on the front. Change em back again, see if it makes a difference.
I also just changed my Lower control arm bushes and it pulls less over bumps, so this may be worth a try.

I changed front bushes about 1 year ago ( Vlamos ) , and they weren't to bad to start with . Most bushes were in very good or good condition when I bought it to start with...
I only changed the lower front as they "felt" slightly softer ( although Pedders gave an OK to all ). After I changed them I was sorry ; there was no difference and the old ones looked very good ...
But I rotated the tyres BEFORE I took the car to Pedders , and it was fine... I can't see why it is not good to rotate the tyres , you get much more life out of them... Only if you spin the back too much ( aka you hoon ) will get your rears square.

Marius, I am a TT owner and strongly recommend that you change water pump and timing belt at the same time. Would be crazy not to change both at same time. If you change the belt only, i guarantee you that the pump will leak before the belt needs changing again. From talking to other people and my personal experience the water pump will leak not long after 100K, or even earlier. Do a search as somebody else changed both recently and took pics. They also have my old instructions on how to go about it. A search on the old ALSC forum might not hurt either.

AHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!! Bit of a pro johnnie man myself
When I bought my car, timing belt had NOT been changed at 135,000km! Water pump ended up going about 2 weeks after I picked it up, did the whole shebang at the same time, just saves time and effort, good for lazy peeps like me!
