Got another oil level light today, didn't think anything of the last one (ie last post about this as I was on a 25 degree angle at the time, thought that might throw the sensor a bit). So I decided to check my engine when I got to work.

To my extreme worry/suprise/terror/etc the oil level was barely up to the low mark on the dip stick!!! Now some of you may be aware that I gave my engine a VERY good flushing last oil change so I thought that might have something to do with it. But just to complicate things, there id no trace of oil on the driveway, or where I park at work and I'm not blowing smoke either.

Any ideas?

BTW, just got offered an oil cooler, remote filter bracket and braided lines, $200.

Fair price?

Sounds good but will depend upon actual cooler.
As a guide the new cooler and hoses (not braided and no filter) from auto specialist was $160 for my car.

Earls cooler, all earls fittings, custom braided lines by pirtek, not to sure of the bracket brand though. Was intended to go on my brother inlaws mz20. Sold it to a mate with a jzz30, wrapped it around a pole so todd has it back again. No good to him as it has been made to suit a zz30 and he can't be arsed getting new hoses made for it, would rather just biy the kit. Good for me eh?

I hate to state the obvious, but you did let the oil settle for half an hour before checking the level, didn't you?

It had to be said :D

Also, did you run the engine for a few minutes before your last level check after filling? A new oil filter would be empty and would drop the level a bit once the engine had been run.

Not quite 1/2hr, 20 mins maybe?

Checked it the day after I serviced and it all appeared fine. Topped it up, I'll just have to wait and see now. The weird thing is that there i no major oils marks on the driveway or where I park at work?!?

It's best to leave the car overnight, and check oil levels in the morning when parked on level ground.

You'd be amazed (or not!) as to how much oil sits up in the top end of an engine until it's all had a chance to drain back to the sump-a-saurus!

PS: I suspect that this is how a lotta people over-fill their donks, coz they check the oil milli-seconds after doing warp 9 (down a side street!), and think: "Geez the old girl's a bit light in the deceased Dinosaur department.........better dump a coupla litres in, that'l see her right"!...........
WRONG!!! on so many levels (no pun intended)
