When at idle, I'm getting a slight knocking noise from the front of the car. I have also noticed that the idle is getting a bit more rough although the revs stay the same. Seeing as everything else in my car is cactus, would it be safe to assume that this could be caused by the engine mounts? Can these be inspected easily? I just don't want to spend $600 on something only to find out it wasn't that!

Now I will do my best to describe this next one without the aid of pictures...

You know the 2 bolts that hold the caliper in place (ie take out the lower one, flip up the caliper to change pads, those ones)? I've been getting a squelching noise coming from my front left. As it turns out, the caliper is pivoting on the top bolt to the tune of about 1/3" up and down. Surely this can't be normal, none of the other wheels do it. Both bolts are done up to the max, so its not that. Any other suggestions?

Lastly, my cables are starting to strech a lot, cruise, accelerator and auto box cables to be exact. I have adjusted the nuts on the throttle body to as far as they will go but the cables still have a little slack in them. The outer sheathing is starting to perish on one as well. What would be a good replacement for these? Maltech look fancy, but I really don't need their heat sheilded propeties, are genuine ones cheaper? 2nd hand from a wrecker maybe?

Ben, I think some eg CC normally have slack in them. They don't actually do much "work" so I doubt they would actually stretch much.

A handbrake cable is under stress and still takes a fair while to stretch, in fact even there, the adjustment would be partly due to wear on the brake shoes.

That doesn't change the fact that mine HAVE stretched, and are at the limits of their adjustments. And I'm not talking about just a tad of slack, more so that the cable has to move nearly 10mm before the throttle body starts to move.

Mate didn't look like you were far from it then. he eh..

Anyway have caught up with you since you finished putting her together (with your audience) weeks and weeks ago.

Did find out that I have two bulging disc, a tear and gas build up in my lower back. Gee was wondering why it was bugging me so much on the Victor harbour cruise. Oh well, happens.

Anyway might try and catch up this weekend and see how your baby is looking now. Unless you are heading out towards this way more and we could meet up somewhere? Let me know.

Cheers bud.

Sorry luv, busy all this weekend! Finally entered the digital age and got myself a nice canon 30d dslr!!! Now all I have to do is pay mum back... Works out well, I've got the biggest consignment of my life this weekend, Bianca and I are the only 2 official photographers at an event that is expecting nearly 1600 people in attendance and my old camera packed it in 4 days ago :-(

Here's hoping all works out well!

That was my next port of call, I just thought I'd ask here to see if anyone had a similar experience and could shed some light on the matter, seeing as my car has done a million times as many km as everyone else here, I now assume not.

I'll keep you all posted.

Nothing like a bit of the old pioneering spirit, seem to be doing a lot of that with my car. I think I deserve a medal, or at least some subway cookies

So hanging for some food, I can truly say that I was 'fooli sik' for most of this week, only eaten 2 pieces of toast since sunday. Think I can face food agin today, supermarkets watch out, I'm on my way!

Damn Ben, sorry to hear about your camera. I only just had time to log on. Should have sms me, might have been able to borrow digital cam from work for you, or tried a few other people I know.

Between work and everything have been flat out. so apologies to both you and Adam for not catching up.

the knock could be the big end bearings at idle my car has only done 95000ks and already the white metal has been worn off the shells $170,also the rough idle could possibly be the shim tappet adjustments very possibly it has never been done before.engine mounts yeah just jack the car up and have a look at the most you will be paying $180 each mount

Oh, that sounds a lot better than $285/mount! Big end bearings, that sounds scary... It doesn't do it all the time though, one of those weird hings my car excels in, psychological warfare, it must be female

No one has any ideas about the brake issue? Anyone know a brake specialist in Adelaide that not ABS? As nice as manta sounds, if I have to take it somewhere, I'd rather take it to a place that just does brakes.
