I have read a few threads about gauges, there was one about this but it didn't go to any conclusions.

The seem to greatly vary in price from about $30 to $200 sometimes even more.

Are more expensive gauges better, most of the time they look better but are they more accurate.

I'm particularly looking at boost gauges.

To name a few brands which have interested me, T-Sport, Auto Meter, Auto gauge (aren't they the same company), RaceTech.

The simple question is what extra do you get from a mechanical gauge that cost more.

VDO, you wont find a better gauge for the money, nice, simple and no wankiness.

I've been running them for years and have never had a problem!

With a mech gauge, you get accuracy and live readout. i.e., on an electric water temp gauge, you could be hooning along the stuart hwy at 250km/h in your SC'd VY GTS, and pop a radiator hose. Unfortunately, the electric gauge will very slowly increase the temp readout, which aint much good if theres no coolant! The downside is that mech oil and fuel gauges suck when they explode in cabin, or over the windscreen! Deep fry your balls at high speed!

I'd never use a gauge that requires fluid to be transmitted through the cabin, that's just asking for trouble!

thats what i have always thought but what about what Aaron said? I guess electrical wouldnt give an accurate reading till its either too late or you cars on fire. So its kind of a 6 of one and half a dozen of the other situation isn't it?

With putting the gauges on the outside i think it might be illegal. But then again running the gauge (oil, water, Fuel) through the cabin is also illegal for obvious reasons.

And also gauges on the outside are also dangerous. Going 100 then the oil splatters out all over your front window. It will look like a scene from james bond.

not to mention it would kind of be gay and also not to mention ruin that nice huge bonnet soarers are partly known for. But when it comes down to it i guess its personal preference isn't it.

too easy for peoples to rip em off anyways. would be nothing worse than starting your car and oil or fuel shooting over windscreen.
