This came off a TT last week.
The part on the right is supposed to be attached to the part on the left - but isn't. The top pulley in the centre has had one edge worn off because the belt was running off center due to the broken harmonic balancer.
Here you can see how the bottom pulley has broken away.
A closeup of the top pulley with it's edge chewed off.

Yep.. happened to mine... and didn't know about it for a lil while too.. the belt caught onto the smaller pulley, and because I was running a shorter belt, it ran ok, but squeeled like a pig till it wa changed over!
Yep, happened to mine a very long time ago, and still running fine without the outer ring. I've got a brand new one ready to install, just need time to do it.
Only issue I have is the belt squeaking on full lock when the aircon is on.

Sorry for bringing up such an old thread (hey at least i searched )
First of all i would have thought there would be much more discussion on 1JZ harmonic balancers than there appears to be, maybe its not such a common problem after all?
Anyway im thinking its time to change mine as i dont want to wait for it to fling off and cause damage, but what i want to know is what are my options, or more importantly which bandwagon do i jump on?
I dont plan on making over 400whp or spinning the motor above standard rev limits so i wouldn't imagine id need anything more than a standard replacement.
That begs the question which one do i go for? a 1JZ or 2JZ (ive heard the 2JZ pulley is made with a alloy center and is lighter weight)
Now my last question is who sells these the cheapest!?

Really good to see someone make use of Search and then pick a relevant thread to give their post context
As for your questions, though, my familiarity with a motor's innards goes nowhere much after the theory so in this case I dropped by to offer the warm fuzzies and not the practical advice. cheers
