Whats the general opinion on this guys? I was thinking about getting the outlet pipes from my IC core - throttle body heat wrapped.

My reason being is that I'm planning on getting my car tuned to 17psi on Friday (WOOT!)I realise this will create a feck load of heat and have noticed this this pipe gets the hottest, Just don't want my IC to be a waste of time if the piping is too hot.

Also, I have heard that this heat wrapping material isn't street legal and it contains asbestos, not sure if they are related, just curious on your thoughts. Would the common Po Po even know that it's illegal, sounds like a fairly obscure law that would be overlooked.

whaddya think?

Cheers, Maurice

I think you're better wrapping the major heat source rather than the IC piping. I think you need to wrap the turbo and manifold instead. You'd be better shielding your IC pipe from the heat source and trying to induce cool air to flow past it (not sure how you'd go about that though). If you do wrap the IC piping, and it heats up (due to heat soak at the lights) then there's no way for the heat to escape other than into your intake manifold. Just my 2 bits worth.

I'd doubt that there would be asbestos in the wrap. I think there'd be a major warning plastered over the packaging if there was any (assuming it's the same stuff I've seen, I haven't seen any warning). They tend to use other fibres, which are almost as bad as asbestos. Can't comment on the legality, sorry.

I was gonna suggest the same thing, wrap other sources of heat.

As tim said above wrap the heat source.
Do Not wrap stainless exhausts though.
the stainless will crystalise and cracks will happen a lot quicker.
wrapping the IC pipes?
NO the air needs to pass over the pipe to assist with cooling
EVEN under the bonnet.
if you really want to get the car cooler there are 2 pipes which have to be taken off one area and re-joint together to stop hot water passing around the cooled air;
I am not going to tell you exactly what pipes .
it is time for some of you guys to sit down with the bonnet open, grab a can and think about what is best to do.
look around the engine and it is sitting there as plain as the nose on ya face.heheheheheehe
good luck guys

Lew, you have told me this info in the past. Remember? :-) I think Cihan gets a cookie, it's some coolant hose below the throttle body, I remember you saying it.

Thanks for the heads up on the info regarding stainless material cracking and so on, I'll give it a miss then.

Cheers, Maurice.
