Hi guys well i finally got a 93 tt soarer this weekend. i got the car from an importer in melb and brought it back to Tasmania this morning. the car has just been complianced and everything is good. i drove it from the ship to home (40min) and then parked it, car ran perfect. i washed and polished for a few hours, then started it again, i went up the road and as soon as it starts to boost a really load whistle noise happens. i was thinking a hose has popped off but i couldn't see any thing. it sounds like it's coming from the rear turbo area. i have lost heaps of power, and when i started the car the idle jumped up and down then sat a bit lower than normal. Please someone help me, i have a roadworthy in the morning for rego, i need it fixed asap

Mate, check all the little hoses around the blow off valve are connected. It is in the area you are talking about(drivers side rear of inlet piping). Otherwise check all your intercooler hoses especially down where it crosses behind the radiator and up to the intake plenum. It does not need to be a big leak to rob all your power. Very common in winter as boost builds much easier.

It shouldn't be the BOV cause i took mine off and all the vacuum valves and the car ran exactly the same, meaning its running off manifold pressure. So i would look into cooler pipes like ben said. Is it a sucking or a blowing noise?

Well i had a look around the cooler pipes and they all look fine, it is really quite loud, it sounds like it's coming form the rear turbo, i was thinking that it might be the turbo to manifold gasket?

Maybe the rear vacume hose from the rear turbo to the rear turbo actuatour(If you have full boost on the second turbo due to blown hose, shawly It will effect the way the front turbo and engine behaves)

Ok well i hooked the boost gauge up and it was only hitting 2.5 psi i've checked all the joins and they are all ok, i have had the best look i can at the hoses around the actuator but they look ok, i'm nearly starting to think that maybe the compressor wheel on the rear turbo has let go. I suppose the best way for me to check this is either pull the intake pipe off the rear turbo or check the intercooler pipe for blade particles I thought my first soarer experience was going to be great, and it was for the first 40 mins.
I'm running out of ideas, i think i will just book it in somewhere and have to pay the big dollars for someone to fix it. I think i better start looking for a stock turbo for the rear.

You are really unlucky.Did it have a boost tee on it? It might pay to get these of duy http://soarercentral.com/sc-forum/messages/292/86023.html?1154869545#POST121008 .Is there any white smoke when this happen'd? It dosn't sound right to be a blown turbo. The way you describe it,sounds like a vacuum hose or intercooler pipe loose but you have checked them Hhhhmmmmmmmm.Good luck,I hope for your sake It won't cost too much.

well i just pulled all the piping off and the noise is definitly coming from the rear turbo area, but there isn't a trace of smoke, or oil in the pipes. i have felt the compressor blades but they feel ok, no slop in the shaft. just hunting for a small mirror to have a look, i'll keep you updated on how it goes, it nearly sounds like the blades are spinning on the housing but i am unsure. All i want to do is drive my new car, once everything is sorted i'll post up some pics. Thanks again Anthony

Ok update, held a mirror near the rear turbo compressor wheel while it was running and it was spinning really slow, nearly completely stopped. does this mean the exhaust wheel must be shattered or any other explaination? my guess is that the exhaust wheel has gone and is unbalancing the shaft and causing the blades to hit the housing when making boost, does this sound right, i will pull the dump pipe off now and have a look.
