Hey guys/gals,
Did a quick search and want to know others opinions also. Car started making a weird clunking/thumping noise recently. Usually happens when I am turning a corner, more so on right hand turns. There is a thumping/clunking/banging noise and the car seems to feel like its jerking a bit. It also happened when I took off at a set of lights (Not gunning it). I had recently done an oil change and spark plug change and everything seemed to have been fine then (before and after). What do you guys think it could be? Search showed, engine mount, gear box mount, suspension, wheel bearings and I had also guessed steering arm/rack or something like that? Don't want to spend a million dollars replacing everything =(

My first guess would of been the Bearings/CV joints, But im no mechanic.
You probably should take it to pedders to get it checked, me and mates have used them before and they seem to be quite straight forward and honest and give you the reasons on where and why something has to be fixxed.

And then take it somewhere else to get fixed! Pedders are fairly good at diagnosing the problem, but are highway robbers when it comes to their labour cost. I just got some suspension work done at a tyrepower dealer for $254, all the pedder's stores I rang wanted from $580 all the way up to $1120 for the same job!?!

If you can get someone to check you front control arm bushes, would eliminate the more obvious cause. Mine did the same thing quite some time ago and that's what was wrong. Loud bang like the front end is about to fall off on right turns especially.
If the above is the problem. Contact Andrew Vlamos (do a search on the forum for more info on him).
Good luck and I hope it is an easy problem to get fixed.

Yeah, you should've heard my front end before I got my bushes done, sounded like I had a resident midget residing in the front end with a massive hammer! All nice and quiet now

It could be your Diff Mate, Same problem happened to me. But i kept booting it, because i didnt relise it was the diff. I was at the lights and my car wouldnt go.

hmmm I think my bushes might be stuffed, someone said something a while ago I think. Though I took it to a suspension place few weeks ago and they said the only thing that seemed to be wrong was my rear sway bar link was on it's way out or something.

Damnit! I thought about the diff thing and well I sat in the drive way and put her in reverse *CLUNK!* "Hmmm ok, lets put her back in drive and see what happens" *CLUNK!*
so not moving and putting her into Reverse and then into Drive results in same clunking, could it be my gearbox which is rooted? though I was on the brake and gave her some revs to see what that did and that didn't result in any clunking at all. *sigh* stupid car is going to start costing me body parts, starting to think I should sell her =\

If you think it may be your gearbox, see how long it takes for the car to cycle through each mode. P, D, R, 1... etc. If it takes more than a few moments (2secs or something) then there may be solinoid issues. Check your fluid as well, see if its A good thing to try is doing an electrical diagnosis as well. There is a guide somewhere for checking transmission error codes.
If suspension.. There is a place in Bayswater called Wilkinson Suspension Centre. Best place for suspension work in Perth as far as i am aware.
If you know what the problem is and want to get it fixed then they are prolly a great place to get it done. I am not sure what they are like for diagnosing things.
I had my rear shocks replaced with KYB's for $412 inc labor. That worked out quite cheaper than a fair few places as well.
