Hey guys, I need some help regarding an error I'm getting on my JZZ30.
I purchased it with the error Engine electrical system on the dash. It was cheap so you do get what you pay for.
After running Diag's the following shows up: EFI NG -> 13 ECT OK ABS OK SUS OK TRC NG -> -- A/D OK
So error 13 means theres an issue with the signal between CPS No. 2 and the ECU. What does -- mean on TRC? I don't have Traction Control on my TT. I would assume I can ignore this.
Now my question is, Where should I start diagnosing the cause of this fault?

oh error 13, I feel for you. Do you have much hair cause after trying fix this one without help you'll have none left.
Basically error 13 means that the cam angle sensor signal from either sensor (there is two) doesn't match that of the crank angle sensor or that they are not 180 degrees out of phase with each other.
My car had this problem and I believe I fixed it eventually by replacing the ecu.
I've been thru 3 sets of cam angle sensors which didn't fix the problem. Also recently got new cam angle sensor plugs which I think helped as the old ones were The sensor itself is just a magnetic sensor with two pins, so kind of difficult for it to fail, so its in the wiring, the plug or the ecu.
Good luck and hope you don't pull your hair out fixing it.
As for engine electrical system on the dash, well in my opinion that is another error again. You usually get this one when there is an ignition problem. So i'd be checking coils, ignitor, plugs and wiring. I've also had this problem and replaced coilpack plugs to fix it, but i've also had a blown ignitor and coil pack throw this error.
The TRC error is probably due to you have no traction control on your jzz30.

Thanks for the pointers.
I have a lovely full head of hair, would like to keep it that way, but if worst comes to worst hopefully it'll grow back!
Now from what my research has turned up Error 12 refers to sensor 1, 13 is sensor 2. I guess that'll be the place to start.
I guess the first direction I'll follow is testing the cabling from the sensor to the ECU, hopefully the plugs are just aged. Even replacing the ECU would be better than the CPS's themselves - there are none that I can locate in NZ, so would have to import from Aus or Japan.

The cam angle sensors are about 350 new from toyota. Bit of a rip if u ask me. I never brought new ones only second hand ones, but hard to believe they are all stuffed. I haven't seen the prob since changing to new ECU, well second hand as well, but from a 94 soarer instead.
