My 91 TT is stock except for the airflow, I get boost at pretty much exactly 3000rpm.

Neil;
i don't know about the top fuelers mate
But it is seriously happening down in the lower ranks.
the little mini i have been helping with was a 9.2 sec car and now it has a massive turbo on it.
thanks to Mwwaa.
now it is a scary thing 90 miles P/Hr and it lights up 14" drag slicks
and the secoundarys haven't been opened yet.
we were up at willow bank at the mopar weekend

Thats pretty good Simon 20psi at 3500 and boost starts at 1800

Reepa/Justin if you guys are running 20psi? im interested at what RPM you get to 20psi?

We have very similar turbos as far as im aware so just curious. I start getting 1psi at 1800rpm and get 20psi at 4500rpm (give or take 100rpm)

Theres a drag Soarer in WA with a twin turbo 1uzfe bolted in to it.
Been stripped, custom cage and the body replaced with a Soarer shaped shell, but still has the same chassis and suspension afaik.

Luke knows more about it, but they are running 6's i think.

You know the one Neil, Moreno and Charlie Gullotto, as featured in Zoom a few months ago. It has only cracked an 8.0 at the moment Callum but it will run low sevens.
HOWEVER Callum there is also a PSI-supercharged dragster running 6.7s (John Donis) and a hot rod-bodied altered running sevens also with PSI.
I note Neil is making gear to run a PSI on a 1UZ, will if fit under the bonnet mate? Hahahahaha now that'd be tough.
Fact is turbos have potential but no one really has the time to stick out the R&D required in the top classes. For example there is a turbo Pro Modified (Top Doorslammer) running in the US but it has a lot of troubles with tyre shake etc.
So much R&D has gone into the tried and true supercharger combination that it takes an unreasonable amount of effort to bring anything else close.
I wonder about turbo in Top Fuel...you would have difficult with the flame front methinks hahaha. But when you're dealing with bombs you do not want to be spending too much time on R&D...

There is the Turbo Camry running a stroked 2Jz in a Camry fibreglass body that has run Officially 7.0's and unooficially 6.7's.. It should be giving the Pac boys a scare in Pro RWD in the Compac Attack series. Driven by Joe Signoreli ( forget how to spell it,lol )

I bet that most of the turbo installs on 1uz's are using lowered compression (ie, the engine has been opened up) whereas most of teh supercharger installs are on "unopened" engines so youre not really comparing like with like.

I dont really think either method of forced induction is much better than the other in a street driven, unopened engine

HAHAHHAHAHHA Luke, ya bastard,,why did ya find that !! :-)
You get the PSI & I'll supply the other stuff when ya ready mate.

Phil, They both have there ups & downs, but simplicty on the V8 is a charger, on a TT its an upgraded snail.

Costs are the killer on both applications, Larger Snails = Higer Costs, Turbos on a V8 = Higher Costs.

It's no good talking about blokes with High Budgets doing what they do, as the average Joe can't afford the same..
What we need to talk about is more moderate prices with the gains that have been made, say $10,000 & under.

There are a few blokes on here that have made some good gains on there TT's & V8's without blowing the shopping money.

Just the Aim's have to be lowered a tad.

A 6-8psi Blower on a V8 may not beat a TT running 20psi..But it will give it a run for its money :-)

Like I have always said, Does one want a Dyno King ? or a Nice daily driver ?

What wins at the end of the day ? Your Dyno Graph or your pleasure in driving it !

My Soarer starts spooling up quite low and gets its boogie on from about 2600RPM~... the feeling drops off quite suddenly higher up the rev range though :-(

I want a 31 or a UCF10 to chuck a blower into for some kicks and giggles :-)

Phil.. I have a friend who owns a 302 windsor powered 1971 capri. Its currently running 10.4's at its best. The next engine he is putting in its place is a Twin Turbo 1UZ. Its going to be completely stock except for fuel systems, intercooler and such. BUt an UNopened engine. His mate builds these engines in race boats and confortably sees over 500-600hp without breaking them or pushing them too hard with turbos. Thats at the flywheel.

So seeing as his current windsor is putting out 355rwhp and running 10.4's, He is hoping to run 450rwhp on a stoxk 1uZ and crack the 9's. WHilst building a Utff, cammed, ported, worked 1uZ along the path somewhere also.

If you can run enough boost to get that sort of power in a high-compression (ie, n/a) engine without running into major detonation problems i'll be impressed... that would definately speak volumes about the quality of the 1uz

Im guessing it would run on race fuel for this?

I make 1psi of boost at 3000rpm and then seems like a bit of wastegate creep as it goes to 5psi for a while and then at about 4500rpm it shoots up to 17psi. 3rd gear in auto with 4.6:1 diff gears ie. short. HKS ta45s.

No Phil, Thats on 98 Pump fuel. The 1uZ is a damn strong engine! And will make alot of power if it is tuned correctly. IE, Not being greedy with timing , and a decent intercooler setup.

Arent the 1uz's quite hollow though for the cooling?
The TT 1uz dragster in perth has been filled with concrete i think to prevent cracking?

The Drag Soarer has a full CNC'd block..
Made from a single billet of alloy..
Stock Crank

Stock Heads Ported
Cams ( Special Spec )
Stock lower inlet half ( Ported )
20 Plenum ( I think ! ) 5mm plate

Liner thickness is the killer..

BUT,,This car has 900 odd kw's..

BIG Quad Slide Throttles,, Group A style Dry Sump $2,500.( $4,500 for the oil pump ).Billet CNC'd heads adjustable cams ( $20,000 worth just in these ) A 6 inch flywheel..This engine will be consistantly run at 10,000rpm. Neil I think the billet block is in the Donis dragster whereas the Gullotto Soarer has the resin filled block.
Also found out yesterday there is a Soarer drag car coming to Queensland but it will be Nissan FJ20 powered!
