Hey guys, I picked up my 91 soarer TT 2 days ago and I had a few questions I would like to see answered. But first i'll talk about the "few" problems with my car. Leaky lights,(of course) but i read up on how to fix that. Dash board capacitors are leaking, so my digi dash wont go on for about 10 mins after driving the car, if it sits overnight. I would still like to find some sorta link or fix on that. And I failed my inspection because I didn't have running lights! But im gonna head over to canadian tire tomorrow and buy a 24$ part to hopefully fix that. I was reading the ECU reset post
http://soarercentral.com/sc-forum/messages/10/21.html?1098228107
and i was wondering if its a good idea. My cars running perfect, or at least i think so. I dont know how quick these cars should be, so I have nothing to compare it too. Can anything go wrong from me reseting my ECU? that i should know about?. Also i was wondering how much HP i might gain from doing the do it yourself, Big Flow Intake, Post listed on the site, and if its worth while. I have stock exhaust, and Basically everything else. And for some reason my turbo timer isn't working. I have yet to get a boost controller. I was wondering how much boost i might be running, since theirs no gauge?. anyways, any sort of guidance in the right direction will be appreciated. And any simple ways to make my car quicker. That doesn't require any major work or cash right away.

Thanks Joey.

Don't bother man, if it's running well, no point.

No, it will idle low for about 5-10 mins, just take it for a cruise, by the time you get back, it will be 100% again.

There will be a noticable difference when on the road, put your foot down, and it will accelerate a bit better.

You are probably running 8-10psi now, once you do the BFI, it'll go up by 2psi to 10-12psi.

Good luck.

I'm not going to pretend to be a guru, when i know i'm not yet, but to give you an idea of the power that i'm getting from my 100% stock TT.

I turned off traction control, i was going about 60 km/h i hit the gas a little to speed up to 80 and the car dropped to first gear nailed turbo and proceeded to spin the back tires and send me a little bit sideways. It was healthy kick to the gas but by no means did it run into the ground underneath.

I haven't reset/retrained the ecu yet, and the car is bone stock. Granted the current tires on the rear leave a lot to be desired, but still a lively car.

It dropped back to first at 60kph?

My V8 won't go back to first much over ~45kph.

if i take it to redline it seems like 1st lasts a long time, i haven't really checked though. I know it dropped at least one gear there though, i assumed it was first, now i'm curious. I'll try again.

and again...

The gearing is different between TT's and V8's but for a comparison my V8 redlines at 78kph in first.

ok, then it could have been. Like i said, i assumed since it broke loose the tires, that it was first, and it was probably a bit slower than that, maybe 56 or so. Still it was pleasantly surprising.

What if it just went back to 2nd? Try getting a kickback from 45kph and see what happens - make sure you have spare road available :-)

If you hold it in first, what will a TT redline at?

Speed or rpm? I haven't held it floored right out, but at about 6800 rpm first looked like it lasted to 77 or 78 km/h, i just didn't think that it would be possible to break the tires loose in second without a shift kit, and with stock TT.

I can break traction at 80km/hr if it's wet so a TT should have no problems doing it at 60.

Not doubting that it happened, just thinking it might have happened in 2nd, so if you jumped it back to 1st it would really go beserk :-)

Congrats on the new ride... I live in toronto and I would LOVE a soarer. Too bad most of the ones in Canada are in BC and Alberta.

No idea yet...

After reading about turbo troubles, white smoke, incorrect mileage/replaced odometers, etc, I think i'm going to go with a landed/registered car. JDM connection has 3 in Edmonton, but no prices/pics yet. There is one in Ontario with 44000km in near perfect condition, but $14000 is a bit too much for a 1991 stock automatic car (from what i've been told.

i was driving in the wet when i first got mine, at about 80, i was sitting in third (manual), waited for i dry section of road, and booted it! I didnt get real urge untill about 90, but the wheels began to spin, and the car started to slide sidways! Quite scary, considering i had just bought it!
