I recently did a compression test and found that 7 out of 8 cylinders gave a figure of around 200psi while cylinder number 7 gave a figure of 165psi. What are the likely consequences of running around with this low compression? I haven't checked if it's rings or valves, but might have to do this shortly. I have heard in the past that Toyota motors have very hard bores, so a re-hone is less likely if I simply want to go swapping rings? Is this just urban legend? While I'm asking questions - what else should I do if I have the bottom end off of a 160k old motor? Shells, and all rings?

If it drives well, don't bother touching it. Will be pretty expensive unless you're going to remove the engine from the car and do everything yourself. Other thing you could check is the valve adjustment. Wouldn't have thought it'd make much difference, but I've seen it myself on bike engines.

Just leave it and drive it... If & when the engine dies, replace the engine. Fruitless rebuilding a 1UZ. New VRS set is $1,500.

A few years ago, I saw an article on a guy with a LS400. He had clocked over 1 million kms with just proper servicing. No rebuild. Those dam V8's will last forever!!

That's awesome, Neil!!! Did you get to the point of failure on anything? Or is that classified R&D information? I remember reading that you wanted to find the limits in the name of research.

Man I've heard of quite a few TT's that are pulling 400kw/atw or close enough with stock internals. A 2.5L straight six making that sort of power is impressive a 4.0L quad cam eight well that's not bad but there is a bucket load more potential! (probably not on stock internals though!) Still much respect to the pilot of that low flying jet! 400kw/atw mmmmmmmmm wouldn't it be nice |

I haven't ever heard of a stock internal 1jz making anywhere near 400 RWKW. Simon is close with a 2jz, but I'm not sure what internals he's running. You may be thinking of RWHP which is lots different.
