Hey guys, I'm fairly new here, and fairly new to owning a Soarer too. Every morning when I go to work I got this problem where the stereo doesn't work properly, basically only the left rear speaker works, and only just. After about five minute the cat converter light pops up and displays a warning message. Soon after, most of the time anyway, the EMV will then display a message and then just turn off completely.

After work when I start my car again, the stereo will work like a charm, but after another 5 minutes the warning comes up again and the front speakers stop working. The warning light will come and go, but generally in the 30 minutes it takes me to get home just the front speakers stop working.

Now I've looked around the forums and it doesn't seem like the P/S fluid is leaking, so does anybody have any idea what the problem might be??

If not, is there anywhere in VIC you recommend to get it checked out? Preferably somewhere close to the Dandenongs.

Thanks in advanced guys.

Sorry, I don't actually know much about cars. When you say earths, what exactly do you mean?

Where the wheels touch the ground.

Kidding!

Earths, electrical earth points, where the negative wires from the battery join the chassis, and where some of the car appliance connect to the chassis, etc.

Awesome, thanks for the reply guys. I'll see what I can find.

EDIT: Just had a look, couldn't find anything out of the ordinary (not that I'd know what to look for!). Is there any other advice? Or should I just take it to a mechanic?

Sport and Luxury Cars (Click the ad under these posts)

Although I have no idea how close they are sorry

Would probably also pay to check how tight the battery terminals are

Tried fixing this problem myself, can't seem to do anything to get my car working properly. Sports & Luxury Cars are closed until the 9th. Does anyone else have any ideas on what the problem might be? Or can recommend another place to get it checked out that is open now? I wanna get this problem fixed ASAP!

Ok, so I ended up taking my baby to an Auto Electrician to get looked at. He thinks that it may well be the start of a problem with my alternator. So to save a few $$$s I was hoping you guys here might be able to tell me the best way to pull the damn thing out?

Justin,
The cat converter light appeared on my 91 V8 on half a dozen short trips in Ballarat, and a couple of warning messages and screen blackouts. Rang Doug at S&L who suggested a hasty visit to an auto-elec who tested the battery, etc with engine running and pronounced one very dead alternator (the victim of a leaky p/s pump replaced several months earlier). Do not recall if any stereo problems.
Is it possible your p/s pump had been replaced in the car's former life?
Good luck

Jim,
Not too sure if it's been replaced before, but doesn't seem to be leaky anything at all. Good to hear that somebody has had a similar problem though! Even though you may not have had the speaker problems, everything else seems exactly the same.
I take it once you got the alternator fixed everything was fine? Also, how much did it end up costing you?
Thanks!
