Today I purchased a Repco oil filter, Part number RZ87A. I was a bit lazy today and just asked the man at the desk what oil filter he had listed down for a 1UZ-FE Soarer and it came up as this one... So should be alright most likely?

I did note down some oil filter numbers from looking around the site a while ago but forgot to bring that note with me today and from memory they were slightly different... Hmmm so can anyone confirm what Ive bought will work fine?

Heres a picture of it:

Upload

Ive actually bought two as basically Im doing an oil flush, one for a 100kms or so on new oil, then once thats removed and fresh oil filled the second filter can go on. Im thinking perhaps to get a nice Genuine Toyota Oil filter for the second change and take the Repco one back? What you guys think about that? I case you were wondering I'm definitely going for Genuine Air filters and fuel filters, no slackness on that. :-)

Yes Mr.Beck that WILL work as a "Flusher" but ensure that you install ONLY the genuine Japanese made Toyota filter for the "Actual" oil change.

The Toyota part number is: 90915 - 20004 , and will cost ewe $45.00 (incl.Grab Snatch & Take).

Try and get one for trade, which is $36 (incl.GST)

"ACCEPT NO SUBSTITUTES" so there...neah!neah!

Also, the genuine Toyota Air Filter is:
17801 - 46060 , and will cost ewe $65.00 (incl.GST)
Again, I would try to get trade, which is $51.96 (incl.GST)

Super, Thanks Again Don, I thought that would be the best way to go about it. I kinda looked at this filter and all I could think of was eww, what a piece of junk... I must have a Genuine Toyota Type for the primary filter!

So Yeah, Ill just do that :-)

Regarding Oil I bought four 5l Containers of Penrite HPR 15w-60 Semi Synthetic. I got it for a bargain price of $30NZD at Super cheap, they had a 25% off sale Today! Since Ill be doing a flush and a final change Ill be needing around 11-12 Liters hence 3 Containers, The other one and a half can be saved for the next oil change. :-) The way I saw it was I may as well get it now for $30 instead of $40 while they had some in stock...

I also got a lovely New Car cover! Works really well. :-)

Very nice car cover............BUT I think you should reconsider your oil choice.

Penrite is good stuff.......BUT I would be getting the 15W-40 , 60 is (in my opinion) too thick.

The original oil spec was 5W-30, so for a nicely run in one, such as yours I'd be using 10W-40 (like I do) OR 15W-40.

ps: One of the things I hate about using Castrol Magnatec is that it only comes in 4L containers and a 1L top up pack.

The IUZ takes 4.9L with a filter change, so in your case you can dump a whole 5L pack in, and know that it's spot on.

Well, I had a wee chat with my Mechanic a few weeks ago regarding oil grades and he recommended it for the age/milage. Plus Im sure he knows what hes talking about regarding the 1UZ since hes spent the last 2 years getting a 1uz-fe Twin Turbo Supra up to spec him self :-)

Cant see how it will hurt to try this out for 5k, From past post Ive read quite few people use this specific oil grade.

Actually It felt rather nice and looked okay but it was far too thin and made the car bloody hot inside! So I took it back and go a nice Deluxe Model...

This new one has a thicker more sturdy material with a thin soft liner material that wont harm the paint, it even has straps and a a few breather flaps!

Yes.... Its rather creased, jammed into a carry case it was!

I also took back the El-Cheapo Repco filter back for a refund. Next week Ill contact Toyota Parts dealer and get genuine tins of the correct trans fluid, An Air filter, fuel filter and oil filter - Hopefully all on trade price...

That will pretty much be the bulk of it, Then Ill look at the smaller things such as the brakes, coolant, spark plugs and leads etc. :-)

Fortunately My soarers had only Genuine Oil Filters for its whole service life in NZ, (PN: 90915-20004). Would be a blessing to my car to continue that trend! :-)

Definitely Don! Especially considering the past of this particular example.

I was at the shops today outside in the carpark waiting for some one. To make the time pass quicker I decided to have a good old stare at the side of my car in the sunlight...

It just hit me again, this car is simply absolutely beautiful - the lines etc completely original NOTHING around today really comes close!

The main thing is I still can't get over what a steal this Soarer was, it was by a mile the best one I ever looked at, it had all the service history, was looked after like gold inside and out, and owned by a lovely elderly English couple. Best of all was the Price!... just such a bargain

While at the shops I bought a CD Ive been wanting for a long time and never found it till today, so though Hmm lets try it in the Old Soarer CD player , previously it didnt work very well and this played perfectly on it I was over the moon. Like How often do you find a rare expensive CD you have always wanted then your crazy soarer CD player starts working again! :-)

And boy this new car covers been superb, no water spots, dust or leaves. Just a silky clean paint job. Especially since over the last day or two its been raining on and off then the sun comes out and dries the water up!

Ah - the joys of owning a Soarer

Ah the joys of living in NZ.

Hmm, my car is due for a oil & filter change too, I'd better get in to supercheap and see if they still have that sale on...

Oh, and Mike, definitely go with the Toyota filter, once you get it, take a close look at it compared to the Repco filter, it just oozes quality.

I think that sale was Just on Friday of last week... Not sure though :-(

Yeah - Ive looked at the pictures of the Genuine Toyota filters... Very Nice Ideed.

Theres no way Id leave one of em Repco filters in the car for 5k - They look like a tin can with a few holes and bits and pieces inside. Rather Cheap, easily reflects how good they filter the oil. Will be okay for my 100km oil flush though :-)

Well, did the first change today, went fantastically. Good fun job in my honest opinion! :-)

There was only one snag during the change, I forgot to get the belt grip thing off my pal to loosen the oil filter. So only way I could loosen it was driving a screw driver through it and turning it :-) As nasty as it may sound worked really well to couldn't be more pleased.

And wow, those Genuine Toyota Filters are fantastically made, beautiful quality!! Makes my Repco temporary flush filter look like a damn joke!

After adding the new Penrite 15w-60 Oil, letting it run and warming up, checking the level is just right took it for a drive... Now I'm much more pleased - not sure if its just in my mind but seems quiter, sounds more smooth and goes much more effortlessly. Love it! :-)

Looking forward to getting the Genuine filter to do the final change once the 100km flush is up!

Nah, Mike, it probably is a tad quieter (not quiter!) , mine was the same, although I hadn't changed the oil & filter in 2 years of ownership.

BUT (before ewe all start shrieking in outraged indignation!) in that time I have done LESS than 10k kms, and the old oil was still a pleasant honey colour........so CHILL!.

I have made a note to change the oil & filter at 5k intervals (which equates to approx 1 year's pootling along the Queens highways n' byways!)

My car still has NO cam bucket "Tap", and is quiet as a slightly tipsy mouse on New Years eve.

Oh dear! I miss spelt 'quieter' - Thanks for point that out Don. :-)

Hmm, I wouldn't be too concerned with a 2 year gap with no change and the amount of kilometers yours has done in that period - But If it were say 15-20kms+ and no change! God help the motor. Yucky, yuck yuck!

Could you explain a bit more about this 'cam bucket tap'? Im not quite (correct spelling) familiar with this......

Woops! I did a mistake again, Some times I type soo fast I forget to add the -ing. I also tend to miss the s' or make other still little mistakes now and then if Im not thinking properly. Come to think of it quite a number of people to it so it is rather common. :-)

Actually thanks for pointing that out again Don, It's actually quite good - Reminds me to slow my typing down a bit so I avoid mistakes! :-)
