I seem to have a problem with my automatic transmission. The car allows the shifting between gears but does not seem to kick the relevant gear in place. Park is obviously park and is working fine (thank heavens) although anything below things begin to become funny. Reverse does not work. I cannot get my car into reverse, it appears as though it's now neutral. When I put my foot down it goes nowhere, but seems like it is in reverse as it does not rev really hard as neutral does. Neutral appears to be 1st gear, can drive in neutral but acts as first gear. D and below appear and function normally. D is drive and shifts fine between gears, 2nd is 2nd and 1st is 1st. So I guess my question here, would this problem have anything to do with the shift solenoids in the gears box, or does this problem appear to be a gearbox problem (broken gearbox)? Could this problem be electrical, in that if I remove the fuses, it may resolve the transmission issue/glitch (if controlled electronically).

Or is it time to scrap the transmission and go the manual conversion? (Obviously last option, well if it's going to cost a load to repair the auto).

Thanks..

I'd check your engine mounts and trans mounts first.

Then check the linkage from the shifter to the gearbox.

Cheers. Will ask a mechie to check it out asap.

Didn't know engine mounts could create a problem as such.
