Hey all first off i just joined and also just recently bought a soarer(1991 v8) mostly stock, just catback zorst 18in rims, aftermarket dvd and screen, and a some bass, anyways my problem is my gearbox is showing about 3 inches overfull, (according to the dipstick) i drained it back to where it should be(apparantly) and it wouldnt engage gears so i filled it up again, i figured i have the wrong dipstick but, i still dont know how to solve my problem, do i try get a new dipstick, or is it the gearbox itself that doesnt belong? is this possible or common? also does anyone know how much oil my car needs i figure if i fully flush then drain it i should be able to get the correct amount, any ideas...help.. much appreaciated.

jesse,

ps anyone have any info on extractors??

On a less humorous note, measure while transmission is warm, in park with engine running.

sweet thanks all. no I didn't use the proper stuff I used dex 3 which I'm sure is wrong. so does that mean if I fully drain it it will take 1.9 liters? why is it so much less than filling from empty. also I could get the type iv from southside toyota yeah?

Draining only empties the pan, there is still a lot of fluid in the gearbox and torque converter that doesn't drain out.

A power flush using about 12 litres of Type IV is the proper way to do it.

By the way, the compare dipstick suggestion was serious in case yours is different.
