| Hi Guys, I just got my extractors last night from Neil (delivered to the office), and i am so excited i just had to post up a pic and start a thread detailing their installation etc.. Here is what you get:
I'll hopefully being doing a before and after dyno run. My current exhaust manifolds have reasonable leaks on either side, so i'm looking forward to regaining the extra bit of power i'm currently loosing due to this too. Can anyone recommend any exhaust shops in Adelaide to get them installed? Rough cost? |

| Thanks Clayton, just booked my car in at AAA Exhaust. Quoted around $280 to fit which i'm pretty happy with. He asked whether their is any pipe bending/welding involved or whether they bolt straight on but i'm not sure? Anyone? I'm guessing they'll need to weld a flange to existing exhaust? |

| Existing exhaust will need to be modified as the extractors are a lot longer than the original manifolds. Most people just get it all redone, new cats, new rear muffs and new pipes. |

| Yeah i figured that would be the case. He said 4-5 hours (because he'd done one before) and i've read that it's closer to 8 so i'm expecting the price to jump a bit. Still, it's in my favour that he quoted around $280 |

| Well so far so good. I dropped it in this morning at about 9:40am (im not a morning person) so they didn't get time to finish it off. They called in the arvo saying they'd got the headers on but would't be able to do the rest of the welding and fit the new Y pipe. They're gonna weld up the Y pipe in front of the centre cat and remove the two cats that attach just below the standard exhaust manifolds. I'm gonna see how that goes and sounds for now and maybe get a high flow cat, thicker tail pipe and new muffs later on when my wallet says its okay. I'm hoping the standard mufflers will keep the noise down a bit too. Pete32 said ages ago that the standard mufflers still allow decent power ups, so we'll see when i get the car dynoed. Before i did anything at all, it pulled 123rwKw so i'm hoping for something a little closer to 150 with my BFI too. The guy said the $280 quote was just to fit the headers (he said he needed to drill out the holes bit to get them on) and the rest of the work would take it up to $380 which i still think is pretty good considering the stories i've heard. On another massive tangent, has anyone heard or had experience with 'dynamic exhaust systems'? I.e. something that can remotely opened up and closed the exhaust by a switch for power mode/cops mode? Just a thought.. Will report back tomorrow, hopefully after having growled home in it.. |

| OK i have just driven my car with the headers fitted for the first time! There is a definite power increase, especially down low and a nice growly exhaust note when it revs. As for the noise? What noise! At idle there is no discernible difference at all, so i'm happy with that. As for what i got charged - very happy indeed. They stuck by their quote (even less than quote above). He did say that if they get another one in they'd be around charging $500 just for fitting the headers! Phil i'm pretty sure the guy who did mine was the same as yours, as he said he did one before. One thing he did mention was that there was no gasket supplied in the kit for the oxygen sensor so it is leaking a bit, he put sealant on it but said if it gets bad it's an easy job to put a gasket in. Anyway all up, very happy! |

You SOB! Hopefully if I wait long enough he'll forget about previous Soarers he's done and give me your quote! (It could happen.....) |

| Heheh - he said i'm not allowed to tell everyone what i got charged because you'd all be going in and getting yours done for the same price! I would just keeping ringing around for quotes and then hold them to it. If they say they want to look at it first then just ring the next number in the phone book... Can't wait till home time, oh look it's home time now! Brumm Brumm! - I feel like a little kid, but who cares i'm just a kid in a bigger body.. (with bigger toys) |

| Basically all I've done is fit the standard size headers from Neil. They welded up a new Y piece to join the headers just in front of the standard centre cat, so the 2 other standard cats that are usually just after the stock manifolds are now gone. |

| Glad you are happy Mark, Dont know why they had to drill any holes larger ? First time I have heard of that. There has never been a gasket for the * Heat Probes * just use a sealant ( They are not oxygen sensors ) |

| The standard centre cat usually isn't actually a cat at all. Smackies! |

| Oh whoops, i guess if the centre cat isn't a cat then i'm doing bad things for mother nature then with unburnt fuel evaporating and all that. More incentive for me to get it replaced with a real cat (Don no more cat pics please) and do the rest of the system. If it's not a cat then what is it? A resonator? Here is what the system looks like with the new Y pipe after the headers end. Quite happy with the job.
Hmm, don't think that should look so oily there?

| Neil, yes very happy thanks mate. Yeah with the drilling out thing, he said that on one side he couldn't quite get them over the studs enough to get the nuts on despite rocking it about etc, so rather than potentially stuff up the stud thread he took one side off and drilled the holes out a bit which apparently made them easier to get on? |

| Actually, that looks like it is a cat, doesn't look like the centre resonator that was on mine.
