Lew is it because they're not off the shelf?
You getting custom pistons made up?
Shouldn't be that much more expensive for custom ones (not that i know, just speculating), they're not cast anyway so the tooling costs are equivalent to a little CAD re-adjustment.
Anything else i'm failing to consider, apart from labour, bolt kit etc. Thought you'd only be replacing the pistons. |

about 2 yrs ago David Phan did a bulk buy of de compressed pistons from America i was one of the guys that bought a set
BUT that is not the end of what has to be done to do it properly.
the only thing that is left un touched is the out side of the block.
cranks has been ground to suit rods ,nitrided and re balanced.
bores have been done
heads have been done
Valves also
valve springs,metal head gaskets and the list goes on and on and on.
so far i recon about $5500 has been spent with out the cost of the machining so far then the assembly
I personally arn't assembling the engine i have a good mate up here that builds Mopar race engines so i have left it up to him.
So possibly around $10,000 and the bottom end will be assembled and the heads sitting on.
then there is all the external parts to go on possibly another 10-12K for all that.
So there for having a de-compressed motor and trying to force a crap load of air into it is a very expensive pass time.
Mind you it is being built to handle 1200 Hp
* not saying it will get there(1200Hp)
But it will handle that kind of power.
i am expecting around 600-700 on a good day hehehe |
