My V8 has always had the 1UZ tap... its got 135000km. In the last week it has became louder, and now theres a new noise. Cold it possibly be a pulley or belt tension issue doing it?

Definitely sounds like pully or tensioner problem to me Steven.

Drop the belt off and start the engine. If all goes quiet, then it could one of several things: Power Steer pump,Alternator, pulley's or tensioners.

It doesn't sound like anything TOO major is going wrong..........probably a couple of stuffed bearings.

If you want to be sure exactly get a stethascope and put it on a few different things and you will find it in about 2 minutes flat.

Thanks for the tip. Turns out its the idler pulley/bearing.
