hey guys, i'm new to this forum and am in the market for a uzz31 soarer probably 91ish model. my budget is around $9k max. do you think this is a reasonable price seeing as many of them are starting to show their age and all. did all uzz31's come with the EMV and airbag suspension standard? and also, how come alot of people tend to go for the BFI intake instead of making a proper CAI with a good pod to go with it? i thought a CAI would be more effective... and one more thing, is there anybody experience that can do manual conversions to the v8 soarer in sydney and the approximate cost with an r154 box? thanks in advance!

thanks heaps! one more thing, do you think it would be better to do a manual conversion to the v8 and then later down the track chuck in a 1jz? or just wait it out and when time comes for engine swap to just find a good 1jz manual halfcut and chuck that in there. would be alot less stuffing around and the v8 manual conversion cost lots of $$$ how much do 1jz halfcuts go for nowadays?

No offence but why don't you just buy a TT soarer in the first place? If you want a 1JZ in a V8 soarer, just sell it and buy a TT. It's a LOT cheaper doing it that way. Also you don't have to go through the hassles of getting it engineered and replacing brakes, etc. If you want to stick with that car, you're better of putting a blower on the V8.

well im not really much of a blower fan. id really like a twin turbo v8 but thats like 10k+ so thats out of the question. well the v8 comes with all the goodies like the airbag suspension, emv and stuff. its hard to find the TT's with even leather so yeah. just want a cruisy car first then when im bored with the power ill throw in a 1jz. 1jz halfcuts are going for next to nothing nowadays so cant go wrong

If you are going to all that much hassle, you might as well put a 2JZ-GTE in. Compared to the cost of the rest of the project the extra money for the bigger engine is probably worth it.

Air bag suspension was standard, but not airbags (as in driver side, passenger side).
The air bag suspension is over rated anyway, and rather costly to replace. It would probably be cheaper to put leather seats and a good after market stereo with touch screen into a TT.
Leather seats come up for sale once in a while and will cost anywhere between $500 and $1500 for a set depending on quality and who is selling.

I dont think its overrated if its in good condition... the ride is as good as any spring suspension plus i appreciate being able to raise or lower the car depending on where im driving

Hmmm I dont see why a BFI is not a 'proper Cold air intake'? Far more proper than some expensive but cheap quality 'pod' style filter that lets all kind of rubbish into the engine compare to the fantastic stock toyota filters...

Replaced my stock filter yesterday - still $57, so damn good value. Old one had been in for a little over 25,000km's and was pretty crusty looking. Think I'll do it every 20,000 from now on.
